Question:

Wisdom teeth- Dry Socket. Do I have one?

So I got all four my wisdom teeth pulled out 8 days ago, each was impacted. I've been in like the worst pain of my life! It's horrible, and this DISGUSTING liquid/ooze keeps coming out of the holes left from the tooth. My upper ones are fine, but the lower ones are really bad. One of the stitches came out on like the third day when I was brushing my teeth. And as I'm reading other people's questions, there seems like there's a lot of things you're not supposed to do once you get your wisdom teeth pulled (i.e. drink from a straw, swish with water too hard) but my dentist never told me any of these things!!!! So I pretty much did all of them?

  1. Yes I feel you do have a dry socket. Call the dentist today and go in. He can pack the socket with a stuff that tastes like cloves and it has a numbing stuff in it and the pain will ease off so wonderfully. I know this pain and it is horrible. You also may have food down in the hole that they might have to check for. But this seriously warrants a trip to see him. Sorry you feeling so bad.

  2. I just got mine out a couple weeks ago too, and I got some dry sockets myself.  Exact same symptoms as you.  But they stuffed the sockets with gauze soaked in clove oil, which relieved the pain within 10 minutes or so.  If your dentist isn't doing this for you, you should request it.

  3. this scares me. im 17 and have to get 3 of mine taken out around christmas

  4. That's pretty frickin' nasty. I got mine out friday. The pain wasn't that bad. And I didn't get my medicine. The first day I took like 10 vic's. And slept til' 2 the next day. And I feel fine, just sore and talk a little funny like I have something in my mouth but pretty good for just having surgery. All mine were impacted. The oozey goodness of wisdom teeth! :&

    be careful :)

  5. i know where your coming from

i had all four removed 2 years ago

and the pain is so agonizing

but if you had dry socket you would be at the emergency ward

for strong pain relief , i never had it but my bgf did and shes a stronger person than me and i had to take her they gave her a drip & strong pain meds

my face swelled up so much it would be streched for ever

you will be fine its just a waiting game

  6. This happened to my boyfriend about 3 weeks ago.  He had to take antibiotics.

Go back to the dentist/doctor and get antibiotics and take some painkillers to help the pain.

You arent supposed to swill out your mouth on the first day as it disturbs the clot but after that you should rinse with salt water.

  7. You know if you had dry socket because you would be in immense pain.  I can't believe your dentist didn't give you any instructions, or one of the assistants didn't, I even got a copy to take home with me of all the things I wasn't supposed to do.  You need to call your dentist and describe what is going on, it sounds to be as long as it's still moist and the clot is still there you should be okay, just cut back on the things that you shouldn't do.  No smoking, no straw drinking, don't gargle, don't brush near the wounds.
