Question:

Wisdom teeth NO SEDATION

I will be getting 4 of them removed. Still underneath gums.

I have no dental insurance, I don't want to spend 400 dollars on IV sedation.

Has anybody gotten it done without sedation and only numbing? Is there any pain? I'm sure i'll feel alot of pulling, but if it doesnt hurt I don't really mind.

Give me some info.

  1. You need sedation, trust me.  The surgeon is going to be cutting through your bones.  You do not want to be awake for that.

" In order to extract a wisdom tooth a dentist must first gain access to it. If the tooth is underneath the gums and still totally encased in bone then the dentist will first need to make an incision in the gums and then remove a portion of the bone that lies over the tooth. So to minimize the total amount of bone that must be removed in order to get a tooth out, a dentist will often "section" a wisdom tooth into parts during the extraction process. Because each part is smaller than the tooth as a whole, each can be removed through a smaller opening in the bone."

  2. If it was just one...numbing would be fine. But all 4, I would get sedated. It makes it a much easier process, I was sedated. Not that I am a p***y or anything, but it was easy. They put a needle in your arm and when you wake, you will never know what happened. Good luck! GET SEDATED!

  3. u won't feel any pain. Your just realllly numb, which is annoying to some people. but nope, no pain

  4. yes i had an extra tooth in my upper mouth in the gums, the tooth was completelly under and i was not sedated

not to scare you or anything but it hurt me, i was what like 13 at the time but i could feel them poking in me and they told me to raise my arm if i could feel it, so i would but then they would just jab me with this thick needle, the needle hurt so bad

    goodluck

and if your older than 13 maybe it wont be too bad, thats jsut how i remember it

  5. I never had mine out, but two of my friends did without being sedated and they said that it was no big deal at all.

  6. There are alot of nasty noises. I would wait until you have insurance. If you have a tough stomach and can handle pain you might be ok but I had all four of mine out  and I would not have been able to do it without IV. Good luck, you will need it

  7. sedation is only needed if you are a wimp. A local anesthetic however is needed. I got periodontal work (whole mouth) done with no anesthetic. It hurt like a *****. Your pain will be much worse. Luckily when under that much pain, your brain releases endorphins.

  8. I dont think you will feel much. you will be out of it. if you want you could bring your ipod and listen to music to soothe you or whatnot. i think you will be ok without sedation...they wouldnt have it as an option if you wouldn't be :) good luck. get some ice cream!

  9. i had got all 4 of mine taken out the same day.Numbing is good enough and let them know when you feel it waring off so they can give you more. They can do iv sedation now?crazy i didn't know.Just buy some extra strength tylenol for when you are home. The pain will last a few days after,oh and eat soft foods

  10. I had all of mine removed without IV sedation. It wasn't that bad. There was a pulling sensation but I was very numb from the injectable anesthetic. The only pain I experienced was after the procedure. Make sure you are given a pain medicine script. If they don't offer, insist upon having one.

  11. i had iv sedation and novacaine and it still wasn't enough. they had to saw the ones underneath the gum in half on the lower jaw. it hurt like a ************ you can use all the drugs you can get.

  12. some people handle it just fine, others can't.. are they impacted (under the boneand skin)? if they are not then it won't be too bad, and you will not feel pain, and the doc should never do anything if you do, the doc's I work for always test first to make sure u are numb, REMEMBER, you should should feel pressure not pain. If you feel more then pressure then you are not fully numb.  if they are impacted, you will  be just as numb, they are going to use a drill to drill away bone, and a lot of water with the drill.. Sometimes the doctor will tell the patients it is better to go to sleep due to nerves and sinus issues.. Hope I can help... good luck
