Question:

Wisdom teeth are getting removed. I'm scared.?

So within the last week, I've had terrible pain, and I went to the dentist. I was only supposed to get one wisdom tooth (I have my dads teeth, he has one and a few years ago they weren't on an x-ray. My two older sisters only had one, and that one didn't come out...) Anyways, the dentist did an x-ray and we found out I have all 4. Which is even worse. To get to the point, I have to get them out (all of them) and I'm so so so afraid of needles. I'm not even worried about the pain, just the needles, and the pain the needle's give to me. And does it hurt bad after the surgery?

A lot of my friends got infections afterwards.

So this is happening in September, and I was just wondering what your experience was like and what are some good questions to ask the oral surgeon?

Do you think that if I asked them to put me under they would?

I'm SO terrified of this procedure.

3 teeth are under the gum--I heard they have to put you out if its under the gum, true?

My dentist and I were talking and I said I'm so scared of needles..

and he said "You'll be to loopy to even care about the needles..."

so will they give me gas before I get an IV or just the gas or just the IV?

  1. I had all of my wisdom pulled at one time too. My wisdom were growing sideways instead of up so they were pressing my other teeth together, they were obviously under the gum. They did put me under so no problem there. After my face was kinds swollen and I had a bit of pain. I rinsed with warm salt water and the stitches dissolved nicely. But don't worry to much about it, it is only temporary and wont last more than a week. Also some people make it out to be more than it is. Just dont worry. Good Luck!

  2. When I had my wisdom teeth out, my Oral Surgeon gave me a prescription for 2 pills.  One to take the night before and one to take about 30 minutes before my appointment.  I can't remember the name of the pill but it was basically to help calm me down so that my mom could get me to the office.  When I got there, they put me on laughin gas to help calm me down even more.  Then they put the iv in.  It was a matter of a minute or two before I was knocked out.

YES! The Oral Surgeon will put you to sleep if you ask.  Tell him that you are very nervous and ask if he can give you something to take before you come to the office to help you calm down.

Just make sure and listen to all the dentist instructions and you won't get any infections.  With me, the dentist gave me an antibiotic mouth rise to use.

    Good luck!!

  3. You wll have a preliminary interview to discuss all the drug options. I was an assistant to an oral surgeon. Some people even took a valium before leaving the house, then when you get there, some nitrous oxide to make you so relaxed that you don't notice anything, then the main needle is put in your arm and taped, so they can add whatever is needed, without extra poking, then, IV valium, then the actual "twilight" drug, that they say doesn't knock you out, but it does, and nobody remembers a darn thing,,,,For afterwards, have a day or 2 off from all activities, have helpers to bring you milkshakes and pills, infection is rare, especially since a lot of doctors will send you home with antibiotics anyway. IF YOU FEEL a shooting pain at the extraction sight when you breathe in, THAT is a "dry socket", the blood clot fell out,,,CALL the doc at once, and he will fit you in ASAP and put in a packing, and you will feel immediate relief. DON'T WORRY, IT will all be fine, much better than putting it off like I did when I was a teen, and the impacted teeth abcessed and darn near killed me. Doing all 4 at once, is the way to go, my son had his out last summer, and it all went A-OK!  Stop worrying, anticipation is the worst part, I promise!
