Wisdom teeth pulled 6 days ago, How long until I am back to normal?

I want to know when can I drink from a straw, drink soda and coffee, eat normal things including steak. When will my holes close? How long do I have to gargle salt water? My dentist did not give me a time line. I've read answers from 1 day to 6 months and need something truthful. I think I've passed the dry socket phase since I'm day 6 but even that seems to be vague. Does anyone truly know when I'll be able to get back to normal?

  1. I'd say a month for a straw, 8 or 9 days for everything else. You'll be able to tell if you've overdone it because it will hurt.

  2. Honestly I went home drinking from a straw (since I was to numb) as well as smoking drinking pop...etc.  I am guessing wait probably 7-10 days to be safe but maybe call the office just to check.  My holes took a few months to fully close probably like 5-6, but there is still a "dip" where they were and I had mine pulled about 2 years ago.

  3. Depends on the kind of extraction. If your wisdom teeth were not fully erupted and you had a surgical extraction, then you should wait a week before using a straw. At this point you should be fine to do everything. The holes will fill in, but you will always be able to feel them with your tongue. remember, they have to remove some bone to get the teeth out.
