So i got all my wisdom teeth pulled and i was put under this morning. Then they gave me pain medication and swelling medication. Then later on in the day i started feeling really nauseated and i threw up. I think it might be from all meds i took. Do you think i should stop taking the pain medication or should i cut the pill in half??

  1. stop taking the pain medication. cutting the pill in half won't do any good. you'll still barf.

I recommend seeing the doctor about this.

  2. You should really tell your doctor... quickly :S

  3. Most narcotics given for dental (Tyenol #3, Lortab, Percocet) work have a high side effect profile for nausea. You could switch to just a NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drug) like Motrin.  Sometimes Motrin alone is enough to cover tooth pain, just be sure to pad your stomach with a little food first. If this doesn't work take  a 1/2 tab of the narcotic. Good Luck!

  4. It is probably the pain medicine.  Try taking tylenol instead and see if that works.  If after a couple of hours it's still to painful, take the prescribed medicine, but take it with food.

  5. I would try cutting the pill in half. You probably do need something for pain, I know I did. Anesthesia can make you very nauseated. Tomorrow you may feel better. You need a good nights sleep. If you are still throwing up tomorrow afternoon I would call because it's very easy to get dehydrated which will only make you feel worse. Put a cold washcloth on your face and try to fall asleep.

  6. I got mine pulled over spring break and i had the same problem..make sure you have food in your stomach before taking the pills..i no it might be hard to eat..but drink some milk or something..And you dont have to take the pain pill

  7. It can be from all the meds, especially if the painkiller is codeine or something like it.  You can try not to take the pain killer and check your pain levels.  If you are still in pain, you can try to cut it in half or take an over the counter pain reliever, such as Tylenol.  Good luck and feel better soon!

  8. I agree with Katie, try taking them meds with food.  Something that will settle in your stomach, maybe yogurt.  If you have taken it with food then it could be a bad reaction to the meds itself.  You could try halving the pills or have someone call your dentist and ask for help.  They've probably seen it happen before and can give you some advice.  It's either that or switching to some over the counter pain medication.

I can't give any more advice beyond that.  Never had mine taken out and it doesn't look like I'll ever need to.  My wisdom teeth are perfectly happy sitting in my jaw bone.  Good luck
