Wisdom teeth removal in hospital?

i've got 2 wisdom teeth coming through on my lower jaw. the one on my right doesn't bother me (yet) but the one on my left has come through, half under the gum, and half pushing up against the tooth in front of it. what could be the amount of pressure back there broke the tooth and is now extremely painful. i have this dental phobia thing and haven't been for years following traumatic experiences. any advise on getting referred to the hospital to have these removed under a general? must i go see a dentist for that, or is that something my doctor can do?

  1. for sure you would need to go to a dentist for this, you really would not want to have your doctor pull your wisdom tooth when you can have someone who does it for a living , as a dentist with more experience. moreover i don't think your doctor even has the instruments around to remove it. You should have the tooth at least checked because if it is one that needs to be pulled you don't want to delay and increase your discomfort to extreme pain.

I work at a a dentist's office, as an assistant, take it from me.

  2. An oral surgeon will do it in the hospital. That is how mine came out. Good luck!

  3. An oral surgeon can remove those in their office under general anesthesia.

  4. Have your psychiatrist refer you to a dentist that has hospital privileges.....that is the only way to get it done at a hospital.

Though....most oral surgeons  do extractions under general anesthesia in their offices......but without a hospital visit. Your regular dentist could refer you to one.

  5. not a dentist, and oral surgeon. I was the same way that you were, i was so scared when i had to go. I had all four of my wisdom teeth out at the same time and i was under a general anesthetic. You need to get these removed especially if its causing you pain and if you dont have room in your mouth you will get crooked teeth. Just do the general and get it done. you will be scared at first, but believe me, you will not feel, hear or see anything. you wont even remember. good luck. and they also give you medication for pain and discomfort after, you wont feel much of anything.

  6. You can get that done from an oral surgeon in his/her office under general anesthesia. Your regular dentist can refer you to an oral surgeon. You don't have to go into a hospital.

  7. I can't imagine the necessity for hospitalization.  Definitely discuss with your dentist.  He may refer you to a dental specialist but at least you will avoid the hosp. expenses.

  8. You need to see an oral surgeon to have your teeth extracted.  I had my removed (3) in the hospital so I don't think that is extreme.  However, now days they have such nice op rooms in their own suites I wouldn't be opposed to having it done in office.  You really should see one soon so you don't lose any more teeth.  Good luck!

  9. Hi i am having 2 wisdom teeth and another 2 teeth out at hospital under general anthesia too.  Your dentists refers you to the hopital not the doctor. Good luck as i am a nervous paitient too. I had 2 fillings and my teeth filled today and i shook like h**l.

  10. You have to have it extracted by an oral surgeon. I can't say it will be pleasant. But it's worth undergoing the experience as otherwise the suffering will be much more.
