Question:

Wisdom teeth surgery: lots of questions...

by  |  earlier

I just had my two bottom wisdom teeth extracted yesterday. They were impacted so they were cut out. I haven't been experiencing much pain at all. I was just wondering about some things:

1. Can I get food stuck in my sockets even though I have stitches (they dissolve)?

2. If I can get food stuck in there, how do I get it out?

3. When can I brush my teeth?

4. Will using a saltwater rinse really make it heal faster?

5. What does the saltwater do to make it heal faster?

4. When can I start eating solids?

Thanks!

  1. hey! i dont really have all the answers but i figured i could help bc i had mine cut out a little while ago. one huge thing is that you are to NOT suck anything through a straw. i hear it will really mess the sockets up. i am not sure about the food thing bc i was not really hungry for a few days after mine. the saltwater does help - at least for me. i am all about saltwater rinses bc i use them when i get uclers in my mouth too. as for the solids, i would wait a few days. once i got hungry again, i still ate soft foods because my stitches were poking out pretty bad and i didnt want to chew them. ahaha.

  2. Well sorry to hear about that.. I had all 4 of mine done at once!

When  you say you feel no pain is it because of drug, novicane both or you just nothing?

    Either way

    1/ little food

2/ light..very light sucking swishing will pull  food out also rinsing

3/next day just not around the area and only a eraser head amount of tooth paste

    4/not really..just keeps infection out

    5/see above

6/ next day chew with front teeth and choose food smart

    Feel better

  3. 1. yes food can get caught.

    2. rinsing with salt water does help get it out.

    3. im not quite sure on that one but normally a few days.

    4. it mite it mite not it depends on the person.

    5. im not sure. it helps keep it clean,

    4. pretty much when u feel u can chew them.

be lucky u have no pain.

i had 2 wisdom teeth removed on seperate occasions and couldnt return to school for like 3days.

    the full feeling is normal..

  4. First of all you can call your dentist and ask him/her too you know?

    But here's my take........

1 & 2. Yes, swish listerene in your mouth hard after you eat.  You'll have sockets for quite a while after the stiches dislove.

    3.  You should brush next day, gently if you have to.

4 & 5.  Not really but it eases the soreness a bit.

6..  Eat solid food two days or so, when it doesn't hurt too much to chew.  Start with stuff thats no to hard to chew like fruit, cheese, sliced bread, peanut butter, soft pasta, etc,

Hang in there...your smile will thank you.

  5. 1. Yes food will get stuck in the sockets.

2.You can get the stuck food out with mouth wash or salt water rinse

    3. Yes you can brush your teeth. Just be careful with the stitches.
