Wisdom teeth - swelling?

How long does it take for the swelling to go away. I had 4 wisdom teeth taken out, I think two were impacted and a third one was a little complicated to remove.

Thanks, personal experiences would be great!

  1. All I really needed to heal was a week. I also had four taken out and everything went smoothly. The pain and swelling all went away after a week, but then later on I had a little pain in my gums. It hurt to inhale really fast and it felt like cold air was blowing on my gums (only in one little place though). My doctor said this was normal because they have to keep your head in place with something that presses against your face strongly. That lasted a little bit longer, but it wasn't too bad. The pain killers took care of it while my mouth healed. My friend went through the same thing. I also had no bruising, but everyone's different.

  2. Oh can I ever give you personal experience. LOL! I have had many oral surgeries. Recently I had all my teeth pulled and got implants and believe it or not I had 6 wisdom teeth removed on the same day. YES. I was born with double. Fun huh?

The third day will be the worse of the swelling and then slowly start to decrease. It is important to take your pain medication about 30 minutes before it is due to keep ahead of the pain. Keep hydrated by drinking water. Avoid acidy type drinks and carbonated beverages.  Do not suck with a straw. I have a website I made after my many surgeries for myself and my kids. My daughter had jaw surgery a couple of years ago.  Check it out. I can promise it will have something that will help you.

  3. Well it really depends on the person. Mine were swollen for about a week (I also had impacted teeth) but I still found it uncomfortable to eat certain foods for about 2 weeks. My fiance was eating rubbery Outback chicken the day after he got his out. Because you had minor difficulties, I would expect they'll be swollen for a bit longer. Probably around a week or so. Just follow all the orders the Dr. gave you and you'll be fine. :)
