Question:

Wisdom tooth extraction ...packing or a piece of food?

i had some wisdom teeth removed 3 days ago and the bleeding would not stop. after 5 hours i was still soaking the gauze with blood so i went back to my dentist and he said that he would pack it with a foam/gel? i can't remember..and he also stitched me up.

today i ate some bread and i'm looking in the spot and i see a white/yellowish piece of something under the stitches. i tried to remove it with a toothpick and had no such luck.

i'm afraid of an infection if it's a piece of food...and afraid if it's a part of the packing that could also cause an infection?

i've been rinsing my mouth with warm salt water but it's not doing anything. what should i do?

  1. If you're really really worried, you should probably pop in to the dentist and get him to look at it again. You might be able to try brushing the area very  gently (and I do mean very) with a soft toothbrush, but honestly, trying to get back to your dentist is probably your best and safest bet. At the very least, give his office a call and ask what he thinks you should do. He might even be able to answer your question over the phone.
