I am 25 and I have a vertically impacted wisdom tooth that has not moved for 5 years. It is not even close to coming out of my gum. Now my dentist can see a pocket growing around it and wants me to get it removed. I am freaked out!! I have never had surgery of any kind! I had my first cavity like 2 years ago and they had to use the little kid needle to freeze me! I have never broken a bone or been stung by a bee and I've never had stiches and now I have to have all this stuff done to me all at one time. Worse part of all I would never be able to be put to sleep for it because I would totally have a panic attack when I woke up. Basically I need to know from someone who has had a wisdom tooth removed from far up in your gum....How bad is it???

  1. They cut mine out they gave me laughing gas so I was awake. My teeth were far into my mouth which made a little longer recovery.  They give you pain medicine for the process they will put a shot in the extraction sites.

    good luck

  2. You need to have it removed.  Unfortunately, it is not the most pleasant procedure in the world.  I had all four removed in college.  They put me asleep with an IV, and I remembered nothing about the surgery.  I have a severe phobia of needles, but after the IV, I was out.  When you wake up, you will have to put up with your mouth stuffed full of gauze, but with rest and pain pills, it will only take a couple of days to get to feeling better.  They may put a few stitches in the socket, but they will dissolve on their own.  Getting it removed is better than then the other option which is to possibly get an infection in your gum.--Good Luck...take someone with you that can take you home.

  3. I had all of my wisdom teeth removed at one. None of them we're peeking, but since the Dentist said I could have problems in the future, so we opted to get them removed. I was 18 at the time, and they put me under (to sleep) and then I woke up and the teeth were all gone.

Had 4 holes in my mouth and it was a little creepy, plus you had bad breath hardcore during that time because you have sores in your mouth, healing.

It's not really bad at all, there wasn't any pain, and if there was, they gave me pain medication.

My sister got it done and she was in the same boat as you were. She fainted at the sight of needles. She did fine though, its not a big deal.

Those suckers need to be removed, and if you're not put to sleep for it, they probably give you a gas, and you feel some pressure. I would totaly opt for being put to sleep though if you think you could stand it.

  4. i had all 4 pulled at one time..then i got what they call dry socket on the two bottom ones and i couldnt eat for a week....good luck

  5. I had to have three of mine cut out in one day. The doc. will give you enough meds. to keep you out of pain I was so messed up from the gas, and meds that i did not care if he removed every tooth that  had. After wards the doc. will give you a prescription for pain pills get them filled asap and take one as soon as you get them in your hand then take them every 4 to 6 hours like the bottle will say. even if you are not in pain because you do not want the pills to ware off for a couple of days this way you are not in very much pain. It won't be bad if you just take the medications. good luck :)

  6. i dont know about wisdom teeth but when i had my tooth taken out it didnt even  hurt i freaked out at first too but then it didnt even hurt! The only thing that hurts is the needle to knumb youre mouth!
