Wisdom tooth hole normal?

I had one of my lower impacted wisdom teeth taken out about 2 1/2 days ago and I had normal w/e pain. But today I was looking at my mouth and I noticed that my stitches started coming out (they arent the kind that dissolve) and there is a hole on the cheek side. I just wanted to check that this is normal and not a dry socket?? I do have pain going up to my ear/eye but I also have a headache..Its not excruciating pain and I dont have the foul smelling symptons. But there is a more dull throbbing pain now that my Tylenol 3 isnt really helping.

  1. Yes, it is completely normal to have holes that are visible. Even though they put in stitches, the holes are actually still open. Sounds weird, but that's what my surgeon told me. The stitches come out at varying times. Some will start falling out fairly quickly, and some may take a couple weeks.

If it's only a dull throbbing pain, that's normal pain. Not a dry socket, unless it's unbearable, shooting pains. If your dentist didn't prescribe you pain medications like Vicodin, try taking 3-4 Motrins, or extra strength Tylenol, or even Tylenol with codeine.

  2. hmm, usually doctors proscribe you strong meds for the pain, never had my wisdom teeth taken out yet, but my friend had a hole for awhile and just went away.
