I'm 21 n my wisdom tooth refuses to come through! I've had my others come through without pain or even realising.

But this one on my bottom right cannot make its way through. It happens the same time each year for around 3 years now, it really hurts n means I can't really eat for several weeks :(

the tips are poking through the skin, so its not this hurting, I think it may be caught on a nerve...

I'm going to the dentist about it, but I can't get an appointment for several weeks by which time it'll have stop hurting! d**n it!

Can you suggest any way to help stop the pain, I'm a bit weird and cannot swallow pills to save my life!

Do you think I'll need to have it out? I really don't want to :(

  1. I had wisdom teeth trouble  in my twenties.  Your tooth is probably semi - impacted which means that it has no growth room Your dentist might refer you to the Hospital to have it removed.  This happened to me.  Meantime use Bonjela.

  2. Get it out. Honest, you'll be so glad you did afterwards and it's really not that bad at all. In the mean time, uber-strength soluble painkillers, bonjela...

  3. Have you tried orajel?

Or mashing up some aspirin and just put the powder on the part of your gums when it starts to hurt.

It will leave a nasty taste in our mouth but it works.

    Well Good Luck Hunnie.

  4. Try making some clove tea.  It tastes vile but it really worked when I had a similar problem.  Just make an ordinary pot of tea but put a few cloves in it too.  Swill it around the affected area a bit as you drink it.  Hope you feel better soon.  I had my wisdom teeth (all 4) taken out in the dentist chair a couple of years ago and the pain from that was easier to cope with than the discomfort I was in.

  5. I went ahead and had all four of mine yanked at the same time.  I was having the exact same problem in addition to the fact that my teeth were slowly impacting together.  In the year since having them pulled the rest of my teeth have moved back into a very relaxed (and flossable) position.  So, in all, I'd say it can't be a bad thing to have them pulled.

  6. Try bonjela or visit the dentists, you can't do anything to quicken the process of your wisdom tooth,  i'm a dentist in training and i know people who's wisdom tooth have taken years to get through

  7. Yeah I have wisdom teeth that flare up once in a while, it really is the most terrible pain.  I've afraid soluble painkillers are the only option you have, but strong ones, to help.  I think there is a good one from Boots own brand.  Ibruprofen is best.

Mine usually flare up if I have accidently got a bit of food trapped in the gum, it happens unavoidibly, but the dentist is always able to get it.  You could get one of those dentel kits so you can do it yourself.  The other thing it probably could be is that there isn't enough room in your mouth for how it wants to grow, and it is pushing your other teeth and jaw - in which case you will have to have it out.  If so, at least you wont have to put up with the pain any more!

  8. I don't think you will have to have it out, I think the only reason people have wisdom teeth out is if they don't have enough room in their mouths for them to come through and develop cyts and infections, in some people they never come though, and very few people have all 4 come through

I used to get the same thing as you for a few years, I purposefully tried to eat on that side and use the one that hurt if I could, it ended up not coming all the way through and have been like for for ages, no problems

  9. Have you tried bonjela or iglu. I have tried it and it works. It is for mouth ulcers but it works very well on the gums.

I hope my info is useful.

  10. aww i know your pain!! ahaha i went and saw a specialist today cause mine are coming through....wisdom teeth hurt so bad! im in a similar situation to you (can't get them out anytime soon) as im doing my final year at school so i have no time to get them out. What i do (and this really helps!) is get a cotten ball, soak it in hot salty water....put the cotton ball on a teaspoon (keep in there with an elastic if you need to) then put the teaspoon on the place in your mouth where your teeth are hurting. Its like a hot water bottle for your gum! also try a heat pack on the side of your face.

    hope this helps

  11. Yea sounds like you might need it out. I had the same issue with one of my wisdom teeth. Can't you get an emergency appointment at your dentist? As for easing the pain between now and then...ok this might sound silly but it worked for me...you know kids teething gel, like Bonjella? works a treat on wisdom teeth, not long lasting but it numbs it for a little while...hope it works..GL and TC

  12. Try clove oil, it tastes vile but it does numb the pain pretty well. Its easily available at the chemist and doesn't cost much (less than £2) and the bottle lasts forever. Also could you try soluble pain killers?

I think it may be worth getting the tooth removed as it seems to be a reoccurring problem.

    Good luck.

  13. Regardless of whether the pain has gone or not by the time you see him, the dentist will be able to tell whether there's a problem or not with the tooth. I really feel for you, i had this with every single one of my wisdoms! I'm 26 now and the last one still flares up every 6 months or so, it still has a little way to go. Some lucky so n sos get no pain at all, you were lucky really that 3 went by unnoticed!!! As for pain relief, ibuprofen and paracetamol together were the only concoction that actually took the pain away, they take the swelling down (which is where the paincomes from) if you can't swallow pills though.. god alone knows, i tried all sorts of alternatves but absolutely nothing worked. Hope pain eases soon!
