Question:

Wisdom tooth socket pain - not too bad?

I'm 27 years old, I had all four wisdom teeth removed last wednesday (5 days ago) and things seem to be progressing relatively well. However, my lower right socket is hurting me, albeit not the unbelievable pain that most people with dry sockets indicate. I also have a hard lump on my jaw near that lower right socket that is sensitive to the touch. My question is, is it normal to have the socket hurt and ooze a small amount of blood/white stuff? I followed all the directions of what not to do, and I really dont feel like it is as bad as a dry socket, but I am a bit concerned there could be an infection. The gums around where the tooth was removed is also white. Frankly, the pain itself is manageable, but I just want to make sure there aren't complications. Any advice anyone?

  1. Do you have a foul taste in your mouth....or is your breath bad?  Has the pain gotten worse instead of getting better?  If you say yes to any of these you should call your dentist so he can check into it.  It maybe nothing but if it is a dry socket it needs to be dealt with!  Good luck

  2. Sounds similar to my reaction when i had my wisdom teeth out. and mine healed quite well within two weeks. Make sure to rinse the area with salt water several times  a day, and if it continues to get worse, call your doctor.
