Wise Dan hard to beat in Breeders´ Cup Mile at Santa Anita
Wise Dan is beast of a horse, who has an impressive record on turf. After bagging two straight Grade Ones, Charles Lopresti’s charge is flying high at the moment. Although the key to his chance is how well he settles, it is not hard to declare him the strongest
fellow in the Grade 1, Breeders´ Cup Mile, being held at Santa Anita on Saturday, November 03, 2012.
Wise Dan has shown some extraordinary performances this season. On his return from a long vacation, the 5-year-old sealed an easy 10½-length win in the Grade 3 meeting at Keeneland. After winning the Ben Ali Stakes on Polytrack, the dashing gelding jumped
straight up to the highest level of the sport.
In the Grade 1, Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs, he remained unlucky, and missed the first rank only by a head’s distance. He built on that, and won a Grade 2 meeting at Saratoga. Continuing his marvellous work, the Morton Fink-owned registered
two superb wins at the top level.
After proving too good in the Ricoh Woodbine Mile Stakes at Woodbine, the son of Wiseman’s Ferry tasted success at Keeneland last month. Winning four of the five graded events this season shows how good rhythm he is in.
Despite the fact that Wise Dan is not facing an easy opposition, one should think twice before looking elsewhere for the winner. There are eight other high-quality runners in the pack. On firm one mile, the participants will be in pursuit of a mega prize
of £774,194.
Mr. Commons is enjoying ideal conditions, and should go well if some of the bigger names flop. On the other hand, Obviously has turned into a dangerous runner after smart wins from the front last three starts. An excellent run can see Jeranimo get involved,
but only if the favourites misfire.
Animal Kingdom has not managed much racing since last year’s Kentucky Derby win. Excelebration needs really strong pace for waiting tactics around this track. Suggestive Boy should appreciate the return to turf, but surely needs plenty of improvement to
play a role. Moonlight Cloud has the ideal speed and stamina, but the surface is a huge concern.
