Wishing that my 19 month old daughter would leave her hair alone?

It doesn't matter what I do with her hair, pigtails, bows, barettes...she immediately pulls them all out. Her hair is driving me nuts because its at that growing out stage and its constantly in her eyes. Should I just cut her hair or is there hope yet that soon she might learn to leave her hair alone?

  1. Why not start making her leave the hair alone?  When she starts pulling them out, start correcting her?

  2. My daughter does it too- shes 19 months old. Sadly you might just have to cut it to keep it out of her eyes. If anything my daughter might leave it in long enough for daddy to see--- 5 mins top. I think kids either leave it or the pull it out. My grandmother says its because i didn't make her wear hats or other things on her head when she was an infant. Idk if that's the truth but who knows..

  3. Have you tried braids?  They are more complicated to get undone than regular ponytails.  Her hair might be too short for that though.  Maybe try a different kind of hair tie?  The hair ties could be pulling her hair and hurting her, and that could be why its bothering her.  Maybe try head bands?  They will keep her hair out of her face, but it won't be pulled back.  There are different kinds of head bands, so maybe try a few different kinds to see if you can find one that doesn't bother you.  Good luck!

  4. have you tried an alice band or a hat with a chin tie? it might be a bit harder for her to just rip them off.

its not totally the same but my godson was about that age when he wouldn't wear a hat then we figured out if we didn't say the word 'hat' he'd forget he was wearing it and leave it alone! lol.

you can get little baby size hair clips they might work too.

failing that i'd just have to play the "i take them out...mummy puts them back in" game, I'm sure she'll tire of it eventually when she realizes youre just going to put them back in again.

  5. I always yanked stuff out of my hair as a kid, even now I hate having anything in it and I've got long hair. Get her haircut with bangs so it's out of her face, but so she can still have the length if you like that. She might allow you to eventually put things in it but might not. Sometimes even the most simple barrette can pull hair and make it feel weird, and some kids just don't like to put up with that.

My parents had my hair cut short because of that and I hated that, I wish they had simply given me a haircut with bangs, and let me keep the back of my hair long. I can deal with hair elastics and maybe your daughter won't mind you braiding it back when needed, as it won't pull as much as what barrettes do if you don't pull the braid tight.

The only type of hair thing (other than a large simple covered elastic band) is a material headband. It doesn't pull and squeeze my head, but still stays in place.

Some kids just don't like things in their hair or on their head!
