Wisnu Haryo intercepts Chao Huang in qualifying round of Singapore Open 2012
Men’s Singles expert Wisnu Haryo Putro of Italy put Chao Huang’s expedition to a halt and advanced into the second stage of qualifying round in Li Ning Singapore Open on June 19, 2012.
This tussle remained in full swing for 49 minutes and got resolved with scoreboard flashing 9-21, 21-14 and 23-21.
The Italian shuttler displayed commendable fighting spirit and despite of a first set loss, ended this battle in his favour.
Now he is scheduled to meet the Indian campaigner R.M.V. Gurusaidutt and if he wins then a seat in main round will be waiting for him.
On the other hand, Chao Huang could not live up to the billing in his opening match of the home event and crashed out.
The Singaporean shuttler aroused the hopes of his supporters by grabbing first match point but then he buried all these hopes by losing final two sets.
In first set of the match, he remained at lower end in first three rallies but four consecutive points helped him to equal the score. He unleashed flurry of power packed strokes and bagged first half of the set with 11-7.
Later part of the game completely belonged to him as he clinched last nine points in a row and proved his supremacy with a significant margin of 21-9.
However, he could not go with same flow in following game and allowed his challenger to level the match score.
The Italian player Wisnu Haryo wrote new chapter of resilience by finishing second set with a huge difference of seven points in concluding total.
He launched a brisk attack and pushed his opponent on the back-foot with 11-6 margin before the interval.
Though, he lost couple of vital points in later part but still he managed an upper hand all the way to final stage. Wisnu Haryo placed a decisive figure of 21-14 and setup a nerve-racking decider.
Third segment was undoubtedly the best one as it remained on knife’s edge until game point situation.
Both players stayed close and kept the spectators glued to their chair. At the breath-taking situation of 21-20, Wisnu Haryo fetched last three points to put final total of 23-21.
