Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo moves into second round of 2013 New Zealand Badminton Open
Men’s Singles campaigner Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo of Indonesia had a great start in SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open as he thrashed Chan Kwong Beng in the opening match on April 10, 2013.
This hard fought battle prolonged to 66 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-18, 21-23 and 21-16.
The Indonesian shuttler prevailed in the opening and ending segments of the showdown and ensured his presence in second round of this Grand Prix tournament.
On the other hand, the Malaysian player had to bid adieu to this event despite of showing laudable fighting spirit.
In first set of the match, Yuli Prasetyo took some time to read his rival’s game and this passive approach allowed the opposing shuttler to enjoy an upper hand in the establishing rallies.
However, he did not take much time to tip the scale in his favour. At first, he bagged many valuable points in a row and then levelled the score on points table just before the one-minute break.
After the half time, Kwong Beng made a swift progress on points table and raised his chances of success.
The Malaysian campaigner was in strong position to win this crucial set but couple of fatal mistakes jeopardised his stakes. He lost most of the ending points and surrendered after reading 18-21 score on the board.
Next game brought something for him as the Indonesian player failed to continue his successful run and squandered a golden chance of straight-set victory.
This time, Kwong Beng did not repeat previous mistakes and challenged his competitor in all areas of the game.
He raised his chances of success by ruling the court in few consecutive rallies before interval. In latter part of the game, both shuttlers put all they had to achieve their respective goals but the Malaysian player managed to finish this set with a favourable
margin of 23-21.
The decider remained interesting until third quarter of the set as Yuli Prasetyo completely dominated the final stage.
He maintained a decent lead until last shot was played and registered a winning total of 21-16. Now he will resume his campaign in second round of New Zealand Badminton Open.
