Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo qualifies for quarter-finals of Thailand Open – Badminton news
Indonesia’s talented shuttler Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo continued his successful run in SCG Thailand Open and marched into the quarter-final round on Thursday, June 6, 2013.
He locked horns with a young Indian shuttler Sai Praneeth B and their encounter remained in full swing for 76 minutes. Both contenders challenged each other in all areas of the game and entertained the crowd while piling up final figures of 21-18, 16-21
and 21-19.
The Indonesian player laid the foundation of his success by winning first set and then served the notice of his supremacy in third set of the match. On the other hand, Sai Praneeth could pocket only the second match point and bid adieu to this event.
In the first set, Wisnu took some time to read his rival’s game and this careful approach provided the opposing shuttler an opportunity to excel. However, he managed to counterbalance the situation in no time.
At first, he caught his rival on the points table and then left him far behind with a significant margin of 11. He played impeccable badminton in latter part of the game and registered a winning margin of 21-18.
The following game saw him making some fatal mistakes that ultimately led him to a woeful defeat. Meanwhile, the spirited Indian lad showed great maturity in his approach and levelled the match score.
Sai Praneeth looked bit dazzled in the beginning but then few productive rallies boosted his confidence. He did not squander this counterattack opportunity and established a strong grip over game.
At the half time, he was dominating all the score logs with a convincing margin of 11. He capitalised this psychological edge and registered an impressive result of 21-16.
The decider proved a tough trial for both of them as they had to sweat hard throughout this segment of the showdown. Initially, it was felt that Wisnu will sweep the table with great ease but then a staggering knock of Sai brought life back into the contest.
They remained neck and neck all the way to game points situation and finally this set ended when Wisnu put a winning figure of 21-19.
