  1. Pride and Prejudice is wonderful!

  2. Mansfield Park is an amazing book, but all of her stuff is great.

  3. My favorite is Pride and Prejudice, but the first one I read (as a child) was Jane Austen's shortest novel: Northanger Abbey.

The following is the length of each novel from my Oxford Illustrated Jane Austen paperbacks:

    -Emma-480 pages

    -Mansfield Park-469 pages

    -Northanger Abbey-240 pages

    -Persuasion-271 pages

    -Pride and Prejudice-386 pages

    -Sense and Sensibility-378 pages

Emma is a book about a wealthy young woman from one of the two most prominent families in the area. Emma thinks she understands more than she does; she finds out she didn't even know her own heart.

Mansfield Park has less comedic elements than Jane Austen's other books. It is about f***y Price, the proverbial poor relation, whose rich relations take her in as a child to help her parents. f***y is very good, very shy and rather insipid. However, the story is good.

Northanger Abbey features Jane Austen's youngest heroine; one who is very naive and who thinks life should have some of the elements to be found in the Gothic romances so popular in Jane Austen's day. It's an excellent satire of those Gothic works.

Persuasion features Jane Austen's eldest heroine, who has already loved and lost. The book begins with Anne lamenting the decision that cost her the love of her life. Will she get a second chance? It is, in my opinion, Jane Austen's most romantic story.

Pride and Prejudice is about a family with five daughters, whose rather silly mother lives to see them married to eligible men. A wealthy man moves into the neighborhood and brings his even wealthier friend with him. The first time the daughters meet them is at the village ball. The wealthier man, who is very proud, slights the second daughter at this dance; from then on she is prejudiced against him. It's a fabulous comedy of manners with a great love story. This book shows you how wrong first impressions (the original title of the book) can be.

Sense and Sensibility is a story about a widow and her three daughters who go from wealth to straightened circumstances on the death of the husband and father. The eldest daughter governs her behavior by what she knows to be right, the middle daughter behaves according to her feelings at all times. They both meet men with whom they fall in love. They both encounter obstacles to that love. It's a really good story.

I could name loads of other books, but you can't go wrong reading Jane Austen. You'd probably have to read one or more of her works at some point anyway.

Personally, I think Pride and Prejudice is her most perfect story. If you would rather a more romantic story, I'd recommend Persuasion.

I don't know if this helps, but I hope so.

  4. There are a ton of Jane Austesn you can read, but I think you should start with these:

    Pride and Prejudice

    Emma

    All the Twilight books

    The Naming- Alison Croggon

    Marked

    TTYL

    The Betrayed

    Interview with a Vampire

    The Vampire Lestat

  5. Persuasion. It's around 290 pages.  It's my favorite...with Pride and Prejudice a close second.
