Don't use one unless I am forced to ride a cart and it's already on there.  Most golfers don't know how far they can hit their different clubs anyway so GPS info accurate to within a yard or two is overkill.

I have a Sky Caddie GPS system and find it pretty good but their websiteite & customer service is crummy.

Best thing to do is research what courses you play & which GPS provider has them.

PS You don't need to know to the yard how far you hit to enjoy a GPS

Down-loadable application to your smart phone (e.g. Blackberry, Treo, Windows Mobile, Moto Q, etc.) that is either GPS enabled OR can blue-tooth synch with an external GPS.  I get distance to front, center and back of green, as well as the distance to reach and carry an unlimited number of hazards on each hole.  Terrific as it is FREE when you send in a map of a course not in the system, UNLIMITED downloads of other courses world wide.  Really cool interface where you can configure your club selections based on how far you hit them and have the GPS suggest the right club based on the distance to be hit.

So, why this over standard GPS

* More data on each hole (hazards and targets)
