  1. I like me some Eldar, very flexible.  They have troop types that are ideal for one particular type of fight only.  If you can get them in this kind of fight, you'll do well, and this is an exciting generalship problem.

Kind of opposite is orks, they are also pretty hard core, because you can just do whatever.  Chaos marines and dark eldar are more set in there ways.  But all the armies are balanced kind of, just play the ones that look the coolest to you.

  2. Space marines, but really crack is a better investment, you know what I'm saying?

  3. "Better" in what sense, exactly?  If you mean "more likely to win a game in the hands of a complete novice" then the answer is probably either Eldar or Chaos Space Marines, depending upon your natural inclinations.

Orks are a hugely varied army, as able to be a fast-moving strikeforce as it is a horde of killers as it is a wedge of armoured power.  But in all those capacities, it isn't as good as other armies.  The Eldar and Dark Eldar have the Orks on speed, the Tyranids on swarming death and the Imperial Guard have the edge when it comes to tanks (as do the Tau, but in a slightly different vein).

The Dark Eldar are a highly-specialized force.  Something of a one-trick pony, in fact.

Craftworld Eldar, though, are beautiful and less fragile than you might expect, thanks to the 4+ and 3+ saves you can find in the ranks of the Aspect Warriors.  With Pathfinders in cover, supported by a Warlock with Guide and Fortune, they get a fantastic piece of fire support.  Jetbikes - a Troops choice - will be invaluable in 5th Edition, as only Troops will count as scoring units.  Their speed will make them a tremendous asset in seizing objectives.

Chaos Space Marines are the easiest to manage into a semblance of a generic tournament army, able to take on all-comers.  The addition of the bolt pistol to the basic space marine effectively gives them an additional attack in the Assault and they have all the other advantages of space marines, plus some of the most terrifying assault troops in the game.

  4. Wait for November, when the new Codex: Dark Eldar comes out.  Right now, the baddies from Commoragh are pretty fragile and highly expensive, but I'm hoping GW will balance them out a bit.  I'm also looking forward to a new line of models, and I can only hope they'll finally produce a Decapitator.
