With AT&T phone service, can I get a new phone before the contract is up?

I just signed up for a new 2 year contract with AT&T a few months ago and got a new phone. Well, I would like to try out one of those wi-fi phones, so I can cut back on my minute usage. I was wondering if it was possible for me to get a new phone without it being a big deal since I'm still pretty early into the contract. Anyone know?

Your best and easiest options are to check eBay or Craigslist for a cheap deal on a phone.

Another option is to call AT&Ts Customer Support line and make a complaint about the phone regardless if you are having issues with it or not. Your best bet is to Google the style phone you have and see if anyone has complaints and issues with it and use the most common one you come across.

Most carries have a policy that if you call regarding the same issues on 3 different occasions then they have to replace the phone. Most of the time they will tell you they will send you out the same model you currently have, but just say to them "How do I know this one isn't going to be flawed too? I have done some researching on the net and it seems like a lot of people are having similar issues." Then see if they will send you a different style phone of equal value to what you have or if you can just pay the difference in price between the two.

If they say no then ask to speak with management, and by management I do not mean their Team or Floor Lead but the person who is actually in charge of their entire department. Being polite and persistent usually pays off with these people.

If all else fails threaten to cancel and go with another company then they will usually do whatever it takes to keep you as a customer.

Yes i think you can but you might have to pay full price.Go to your local ATT store Im sure they can help.Or try ebay for cell phones i got a cell phone from them before and it works great.

yea, it wont be a big deal.  you'll just end up paying more since you won't be eligible for an upgrade.

yeah but it will be a h**l of a lot of money lol. cuz you will have to pay retail price for it. just wait til your d**n upgrade and get a free one thats tight. wait it out niggaaaa!

You can get a new phone but it is going to cost you. You cant get it for free because your contract is new and you have to wait 18 months to get another upgrade. If you were to go get a phone i would suggest that you get the blackberry pearl it has internet on it and i believe that that is what you are after. The best thing i can suggest is that you should go into an AT&T store and talk to one of the people there. They know what is best. I know this stuff because i myself am an AT&T customer and have been for 3 years.
