With Bodemeister out of the Belmont Stakes, who will stop I’ll Have Another?
The Flower Alley Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes winning colt, I’ll Have Another is a happy horse, even after some of the toughest races he will ever run in his career. According to Doug O’Neill’s assistant trainer, I'll Have Another was a happy horse on the morning of 21 May, 2012.
When anybody’s horse has already won the first two jewels of the Triple Crown and going for the kill in the “Test of the Champion” there is no better sight than to see their horse happy in his stall doing better than he was doing before the gruelling races that he was a part of.
It must be a great boost for the connections and staff alike that the horse they are working for is a centre of their motivation by giving out good vibes like I’ll Have Another is giving out currently.
“He looks fantastic this morning,” said assistant trainer Jack Sisterson. “He ate everything up last night and is a very happy horse. He walked the shedrow this morning. I have to speak with Doug, but it’s likely he will go to the main track at some point this week.”
In both the Triple Crown races, Bodemeister was the only runner, who could stand up to I’ll Have Another – which already has created a new rivalry between the two.
In the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, Bodemeister was the one who I’ll Have Another had to reel down to win the race, but it can be safely said that if it wasn’t for I’ll Have Another Bodemeister would have gone on to win both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.
So much so, that Bob Baffert said in an interview after the Preakness Stakes that he has had enough, and he will not send Bodemeister up against I’ll Have Another in the Belmont Stakes.
Fans are wondering, who is going to stop I’ll Have Another on 9 June, but minus Bodemeister, Union Rags is bidding for his return in the Belmont Stakes, and so is the third place Derby finisher, Dullahan.
The common question above all is, whether these two and the rest are enough to hold down I’ll Have Another, guess at times like this, time is the best teller.
