With Directv can you record muliple shows at the same time on the same tv?

I am confused how the directv DVR works. Can you be recording a show and still be watching a different show on live tv? and can you record multiple shows on the same tv at the same time?

it depends how many lines you have some people can only have one show at a time because they only have one line running to the DVR but like me i have two lines so i can record on one channel and watch another channel or have two things recording at one time.

1 line run: Can only record one show at a time, can watch something that is recorded while recording.

2 lines run: Can record two shows at a time, record one show while watching 'live' TV on other turner. If both turners are recording you can watch a recorded program.
