... Or does Nadal still have to produce a specific Wimbledon result to hang on to number 2?

  1. Yes, Nadal's #2 ranking is safe for now, unless he too loses early.  Djokovic also has a lot of points to defend this summer in Canada and a final at the U.S. Open, so a slip up at either of those tournaments could really cost him, let alone keep him in the hunt for #2 or #1.

  2. Well if you mean will Nadal still be #2 and Novak be #3 yes. Davydenko at #4 might drop by loosing first round to Ferrer or more accurately Ferrer may leap frog him. Oh and if Andy Roddick does something unexpected like win he ain't going anywhere near #3 he may be right on Davydenko's **** at #5. Assuming Ferrer gets ahead of Davydenko to 4th place leaving Andy in #6.He will rise by the increment of 750 (1000 for winning - 250 for last years QF) Hahaha. I doubt it. So yes the rankings will pretty much stay. The only ones moving up maybe are Gasquet, Wawrinka, Roddick & Ferrer. But Ferrer overtaking Davydenko is the only ranking movement I can see happening.

    1st Federer , R.  6900

    2nd Nadal , R.  5755

    3rd Djokovic , N.  5360

    4th Davydenko , N.  3115

    5th Ferrer , D.  3005

    6th Roddick , A.  2280

    7th Nalbandian , D.  2100

    8th Blake , J.  2015

    9th Wawrinka , S.  1615

    10th Gasquet , R.  1610

  3. Yes...rafa is safe.. for now..

  4. Nadal can actually take over number 1. It depends on where Federer loses, if he ever does.

  5. its safe

  6. Djokovic has been very vocal and loud about Federer being "vulnerable" and look what happened to him now...he was a sitting duck for Safin yesterday...his serve deserted him, his groundstrokes were sprayed all over the court and what a way to end the match....this should serve as a lesson for him to watch out what he's saying cause nothing is certain in this game-only defeat when you dont play your best....

i believe Rafa's number 2 spot is untouchable at the moment more so if Rafa can go deep into the tournament....lets all wait for another Federer-Nadal final...cant wait...

  7. Djokovic lost in the second round in 2008 as opposed to semi-finals in 2007. He failed to defend his points big time! If Rafa stays on course and makes it to the finals, he will open up a comfortable lead.

Djokovic from this point onward is in a defending mode---if he does not defend, he losses gound, particularly if Rafa and Roger stay on course.
