Question:

With Kia's 10 year warranty how often does your car need to be serviced by KIA

I'm recieving marketing letters with marketing phrases like "dont let kia void your warranty" The flyer seems to bit a inconsistent with my owners manual though. The owners manual shows I need service every 7500 miles though kia's marketing letter say you need ervice every 5000 miles.

I just dont want to spend 80 bucks on a dealer oil change where all you get is an "inspection" of the rest of your car.

i'd rather spend 20 bucks at the carspa down the street and get a free car wash....oh yea free wifi while im waiting.

If someone could clarify the service rules that would be awesome.

  1. You can do maintenance work anywhere you want as long as you can prove that it was done according to their specifications.  They cant require you to use the dealer.

As for what to do when.  Go with the manual.  You have to assume that they made those to promote a long vehicle life especially when they have such a long warranty and are attempting to prove they make good cars.

For the 1st guy.  You get a letter in the mail when your car is recalled telling you the problem and how to safely get it fixed.  You can also look up that info on the internet.

  2. The important things are the transmission flushes every 30,000 and timing belt (varying intervals, 40,000 miles on many of them). Also, if you have all wheel drive you need fluid replaced in the transfer case every 60,000. Coolant flush is due every 30,000 miles.

I would focus on those items first and foremost, because they are related to the power train warranty (10 year warranty only covers power train).

But what are you getting for your $20 at the Carspa? If they don't use the Kia synthetic blend oil and Kia oil filter, you may be cheating your car - and Kia may in fact void the warranty if your engine goes bad.

Kia book says 7500 miles - if you live in any metropolitan area your dealership should and would recommend shorter intervals. Any areas with a lot of traffic and stop and go will wear more on your engine. That's usually why you get recommend services more often.

Finally, there are countless reasons to take your car to a real dealership. They can keep track of any recalls and I couldn't tell you how many times I've seen the aftermarket shops have recommended un-needed repairs and missed important repairs.

Being cheap usually costs more in the long run. But some people never get that.
