With NLDS Game 3 at Cincinnati, team hopes for big turnout of fans – NLDS Update
As the possibility of the Cincinnati Reds winning the National League Division Series increased further, players hoped on Monday, October 7 that the team will get the attention it deserves. There apparently is some concern about the empty seats at Great American Ball Park when the Reds played the last games of regular season here.
Homer Bailey, who is to make start in the crucial Game 3 against the San Francisco Giants, is one of the players, who sounded frustrated by what he witnessed.
"We keep listening about the 1970-whatever Reds," Homer Bailey said. "But no one is taking about this team, and this rotation and the things that we've done, and the number of quality starts, the amount of innings -- the four guys over 200 and five guys making 30 starts.”
What is important to remember is the fact that if the Reds win this National League Division Series, this will be first appearance for them in the National League Championship Series since the last time they did it back in 1995.
But while the endeavour remains to finish it off perfectly, without any potential setback, challenges undeniably abound. The Reds have a 2-0 lead currently and no team in the past has blown this lead off, something that the Reds need to keep in the mind.
Winning on Tuesday, therefore, will be important. But emphasis here is being laid on the importance of the fans’ presence in the Great American Ball Park, something that has recently remained negligible.
"I don't know what to tell you -- maybe they were just watching in TV," Brandon Phillips said. "All you can do is hope they come out and hope we can go out and win. I hope they're there when we get back [from San Francisco]. I want to see a lot of red in the stands, and I'm not talking about the seats, either."
Great American Ball Park, this year, has so far remained 15th in the 30 teams in terms of the attendance, having finished 16th in total and average attendance. It will be exciting to see if there is a big turnout on Tuesday as Cincinnati battles it out on the field.
