I think this leave a VERY expensive QB on the outside looking in.

  1. On the cold, hard bench!

  2. well obviously learning a new system is going to be hard. have u ever tried it? some people pick it up faster than some others. O'Sullivan being named the starter will just give smith and hill time to learn and catch up with the offense and if smith doesn't pick it up fast enough u can expect him to not be a 49er next season or he might still be there. look at rex grossman they resigned him to another year even though he played horribly. we wouldn't consider smith a bust so soon yet. hes still young at the age of 25. he could easily go to another team and be their franchise quarterback because he still has a decent 7-8 years on him. so if i was the 49ers id resign him to a one year contract.

  3. if he can't regain his starting job this season and prove he was worth a number one pick this season he will be on a new team in 2009.  this is his 4th season and to be a number one pick and not be starting by then, a team isn't going to grant a 5th season.  i would say they get a mid to late round draft pick for him in a trade or an outright release given his salary that no team is going to want to pick up.

  4. It leaves him watching the 49ers winning more games than he did for them last year!!!!

  5. Well very simply its leaves him "riding the pine"

I don't think he'll be a starting QB in this league again, for the 49ers or any other team.
