With Tim Donaghy fixing games, why was he not making money?

I know he was gambling on other things, but was he betting on the games he was officiating?

i'm not so sure that has been made public yet but some ex-mobsters that have been interviewed about similiar situations think that he got himself into debt and fixing games was the only way to pay it back b/c he couldn't afford to pay it back or lose his life.

another theory is he was telling mobsters which way a betting line was going to go for cash
