Question:

With Williams knocking out Quintana easier then Cotto, does he have more power than Cotto?

I'm asking this because I see alot of people picking Cotto to knock Margarito out, I can't see it happening if Williams/Cintron didn't even hurt him. Part of that loss has to be because of the style of Williams, who has an even higher punch output than Margarito, and simply beat him at his own game. Short of that, Margarito will be too much for him and win by a unanimous decision. Cotto had his hands full against Shane Mosley, whom he barely beat by a narrow decision in November 2007. Margarito, though, is a step above Mosley in ability at this stage of Mosley’s career, and Margarito’s offense is much more dangerous than Mosley. Without a doubt, no one expects Cotto to be able to match Margarito in his high volume punch output, because Cotto is often hard pressed to average 60 punches per round compared to Margarito’s 100. I don’t expect Margarito to start slowly, either, like he did in his fight against Williams, as Margarito has seemingly learned his lesson from that defeat.

  1. Margarito will come out swinging in this fight. I know he's taking this fight seriously. I have Margarito by decision or possibly KO. Margarito has a high workrate and I am not exactly sure if Cotto will be able to keep up. Like Woody said, he may be able to eek out a close victory but that is about it. Margarito has power and more importantly, can take a punch, while I'm not really sure if Cotto can. Margarito will be willing to eat some punches. This may well be a career-defining fight for Margarito, and I will give him respect if he wins.

To answer the question,  I wouldn't say Williams has more power than Cotto, but he looked like a changed fighter in the Quintana fight and there is no way Cotto is going to that body without getting hit 2 or 3 times by Williams. Williams vicisously attacked Quintana whenever he tried to get in, even if he did miss at times, Quintana is more of a mover than Cotto so Cotto WILL be easier to hit. Plus, Cotto may be damaged goods after the Margarito fight.

  2. it dosent matter how easy they knockout opponents , like in Hatton/castillo , Hatton knocked him out , and Mayweather didnt, and Mayweather beat Hatton ,so it dosent matter on how easier a fighter knocks out another fighter then a opponent , it's based on skill, and Cotto hits harder, i dont see margarito getting knockedout but i do see margarito getting deadly body blows and have it be a TKO in the 10th-11th round for Cotto

  3. Well, comparing Miguel Cotto and Paul Williams' power according to what they did against Carlos Quintana is a bad way of assessing it. There are other factors to account for as to why Williams was able to dispose of Quintana quicker than Cotto.

Anyway, I am one who feels that Miguel Cotto will not knockout Antonio Margarito and have been saying ever since their match became official. Margarito has taken punches from Williams and Cintron (twice), as you mentioned. So why should Cotto be that much different in trying Margarito's chin? I could see a Margarito KO over Cotto, long before seeing a Cotto KO over Margarito. I think this fight will be much, much tougher for Cotto, than what many may expect. I feel if Cotto should get the win, then it will be by a very narrow decision.

  4. cotto has the best chance of winning because he always works the body of his opponent than he goes to the head. he is always slow to start which I am sure by now that Cotto has made some changes to keep him from getting knocked down early.

as for power Cotto is the only boxer to knock Sugar Shane Mosely silly that is a fact

  5. It took Williams 13 rounds to get the job done against Quintana it only took Cotto 5.

  6. I could see Cotto KO Margaritto from a possible body shot.   That's where Cotto does most of his damage.   I would however like to see Cotto vs Williams if Cotto handles Margaritto.   That would be interesting because Williams is tall long & a southpaw.  Cotto would have a lot of body to attack but if Williams can take the punishment & dish out his pace of 100 punches a round we would have a very good fight on our hands.
