With a BA in english and a law degree what can someone do other than practice law?

incase I can't find a decent law job or get sick of it.

  1. You could be an English teacher.

Many lawyers (and especially women for some reason) change out of law at some point.  Many go into management in non-profits or in companies in non-legal areas.  I know many non-practicing ones--the COO of a large community foundation, head of a Law Museum, public policy analyst, teacher, and others.  Lawyers are usually good writers, so with an English degree you have flexibility.

  3. A BA in English and a law degree would qualify you for an administrative post in local government or the civil service, or in many private companies.  It could qualify you to become a company secretary (that's the company's administrator not the typist).

    It would also allow you entry to many professional management positions, where the class of your degree is more important than the subject /s studied.  I.e they are looking for someone who is intelligent and well educated rather than a specialist in a particular subject.
