Question:

With all the emphasis on climate change, carbon emissions etc, can't we look at taking carbon from the air?

If they can take oxygen and nitrogen from the air in industry, let's look at extracting them, taking out and liquifying the other gasses, then releasing the oxygen and nitrogen, as nature intended

  1. The oil companies have been doing just that for several years.  It is a process called Carbon Sequestration.  By injecting CO2 rich waters into coal seams, it causes the Carbon Dioxide to adhere to the coal surface and bumps the Methane gas (clean burning natural gas) off the coal.

It therefore serves two purposes:  1. It reduces the amount of carbon dioxide being pumped into the atmosphere; and 2. increases the amount of clean gas that can be produced.

Nothing can offset the amount of greenhouse gases being spewed into the atmosphere by one volcano like Mount Penatubo which far exceeds what man does worldwide.

  2. That is what I want to do with my Atmospheric Cleanup Machine that flies in a low orbit. It produces Ozone and takes out the chemicals that deplete Ozone and the green house gasses. CO2 is only 50% of the problem, methane is bad, CFC's are very bad and we can clean up our mess for our children. To see pictures of this machine:  go to CooingEarth.org

  3. It's called a TREE! There used to be really big ones everywhere! When they're cut down,it takes hundreds of years before the trees are as big as they were. What do you think takes more CO2 out of the air?A 2ft seedling? or a 200ft,2000year old giant?

  4. someone has already built a device

but that is NOT what the treehuggers want.

    they want money and control.

they could care less about getting CO2 out of the air.

    it's cars

    factories

    about making a liveing

they want to shut down industry in  the US.

this can be seen by the fact that they claim to want to go to wind and solar power.

yet when someone wants to build a solar plant or wind farm the first people that block it are the treehuggers

  5. Maybe there should be a certain number of "tree farms" per area sq.? Then there'd be even more trees to soak up all that unwanted CO2 in the atmos? Not a bad idea it'd make everything look prettier too :-)

  6. Um .... have you noticed how much air is out there?

... and if the idea were feasible can you imagine what it could or would mean for weather control?

  7. The lumber industry is the number one agency taking carbon from the air. All these years, the 'environmentalists' have been wrong about them.

As trees grow, they grab CO2 molecules, use the carbon to build their tissues and release the oxygen for us to breathe.  So, more CO2 means more oxygen for us to breathe.  As trees are cut down and turned into lumber for construction, with new trees planted in their place, that carbon is locked away where it can't be recirculated back into the atmosphere.

But, then, there is no chance at all that we can take as much CO2 from the air as the oceans are releasing as they warm.  A single volcanic explosion like Mt. St. Helens releases more CO2 than we can ever hope to lock away, more than all of human industry has produced in the past two hundred years.  We are dwarfed by nature's immensity.
