We get caught up on talking about the surge but should we even be there. What was the original reason we went there? Why are we still there? And how is victory defined?

  1. McCain doesn't want to say Obama was right about the time line.

  2. Well the main thing about the surge is we SHOULD be there. Although not everyone agrees with the war in general, which is justified for some, the surge was a necessity for America. If we would have backed out of Iraq, like Obama wanted, then America would have LOST the war. This would be a horrible loss for America. America losing to Iraq? A world power losing to Iraq? People would see that as the downfall of America. McCain was a strong supported of the surge, Obama was not. McCain supported the war in the first place, Obama did not. They are both 50/50.

However, the way I see it, McCain supported the plan to win the war and Obama supported the plan to lose the war. Obama was right in the first place, according to some, but the point is, we were already in the war. By backing out, it would be a major blow to Americans, and that is where Obama, as far as I think, went wrong.

The worst part of it is that Obama refuses to admit his mistakes. He won't admit that he was wrong in not voting for the surge. Just today, he finally stated that the surge was a success on O'Reilly, but still would not say he was wrong. That is what scares me. I am an avid Republican and I fear if Obama gets elected, he won't take responsibility for his bad decisions, which is a trait that we don't need for a President.

We are currently there to seal the deal. If we backed out now, all the work we have put in would be lost, simply put.

Victory is defined when Americans can come home without fear of Iraq. When Americans are no longer dieing from the viscous attacks of Iraq, then victory has arrived.

    Great question!

  3. Bush couldn't find Osama and wanted to get re elected...so he started a war...America does not switch Presidents during a war...

  4. According to McSame, the real Iraq war only started with the surge. Not the one where GWB said, "Mission Accomplished."

  5. What talk about the surge?  The "surge" was instituted almost a year ago.  And along with the surge came a new field commander who is an expert in dealing with insurgents who implemented different tactics and strategies.

There are already units coming home from the surge and a large draw down has already been instituted.

Original reason.  Weapons of mass destruction, (Yes, no WMD's of nuclear dimensions were found but large stores of chemical agents were along with rockets that were banned from them to have.)   failure to allow inspections, flying in no fly zones, not following NATO mandates.

Why are we still there?  You just can't kick a** then walk away when it is a country of millions that you just dismantled there infrastructure.  To do so would be irresponsible and counterproductive.  We must secure the country in order for the greater good to be accomplished, ie self government and internal security.

How is victory defined?  Overall or just in Iraq.  Don't forget Afghanistan (yes by the way we are still fighting a war in Afghanistan)  No more atrocities like we suffered on Sept. 11th 2001.  So far so good.

    Post Script.

Victory defined?  What an ignorant question to begin with, Victory can no more be determined with an enemy that has no boundaries, government, or one place/leader than you can determine the root of PI.

  6. Oil...Oil...Oil

  7. Yeah, in your world of 30 minute sitcoms and 60 minute dramadies we should have been done a long time ago.
