With all the traffic and construction nowadays, why don't people buy motor bikes?

I live in London and everybody complains about all the traffic and road works and that they they take so long to get from one place to another. I'm not suggesting everyone buy a bike, but if I get one, wouldn't I get to work quicker?

Bikes are considerably cheaper so it would be much more economical for the people that buy one. I'm not sure if bikes and/or scooters have a good fuel economy, by the way, so if someone can give some info about that too would be nice.

One reason is they are so dangerous because drivers don't pay attention or are distracted and hit them. In my city we have had 28 people killed this year on motorcycles. Some motorcycle riders are at fault but usually it is people who turn in front of them or side swipe them. If it was not so dangerous more people would ride. It might be different where you live as I am in Texas, USA

they have MUCH better fuel economy.. by like 30-60 mpg.. some get 90 mpg! but they're more dangerous than cars and you have to get a special license to drive one so that could be why more people don't have them

What Belle says is true; at least here in the U.S. Perhaps in the UK drivers are more aware of motorbikes as there has always been  a large contingent of cyclists there. I've had motorbikes for 30+ years and am quite content to be riding one, in most situations. However, you don't have the protection from the weather that a motorcar affords nor the capacity for many items you might need, unless you have a touring bike.

But motorbikes are capable of great fuel economy. Even my 1800cc Honda Gold Wing can get 40+ mpg if driven moderately. A 250cc commuter bike can get double that or more.

I'll take a motorcycle over a car any day unless there is a compelling reason to have to be in a wheeled box.
