  1. HD-DVD and BluRay are High Definition sources, and are the future, but until HD-DVD and BluRay sort out which is the standard then I cannot see films only being produced on this format.

but when bluRay (favorites) does become standard, the players will reduce in price and then it will replace the DVD player.

The look much the same and work the same, so dont worry

  2. Yes for quite some time I think. Reasons , blue ray disc and players are over priced , typical Sony! Until the players cost about $200-300 dollars they really won't take off , just like DVD players in the past. Also unless you have a NEW 1080p TV you see very little benefit.

So people have to buy a NEW TV and then a Blue Ray player

  3. I've only just gotten used to programming my video recorder!

  4. I hope so.  I must admit I wasn't too happy when my VHS collection plummetted in value overnight, and I won't be too happy if my DVD collection does the same thing!  I gather the plan is that blu-ray dvd players will be backwards compatible with old dvd discs, so we won't have to replace them just yet.  As for how long normal dvds will be produced depends on how many people continue to buy them.  They'll only sell them as long as the format is viable.  Once everyone switches over to blu-ray, it will probably take over more and more shop floor space and dvd will disappear, as did vhs.

  5. You will see a slow shift to Blue Ray DVD in the coming years.  It will be like the transition from VHS to DVD, where video stores and online rental places will ease in Blue Ray more and more.

Until the price of the players come down, DVD will be around for a long time. but eventually, it will be phased out.

  6. Blu Ray is higher definition so better quality.

Not many people have them yet, so they release both but it will change in the same way DVD replaced VHS.

Give it 5 years or so and DVD will die as video tape did

  7. I'm one furious owner of a collection of rare films I paid a pretty penny for on DVD, including the blacklisted at release "Salt Of The Earth". If I have to, I'll start buying spare parts now and have my elec. engineer buddy ready.

  8. yes and thy are soon it will Chang to B/R and like those old moves digitally remasters to B/R.

  9. It's likely that players will be sold that play both formats, so your library won't have to be thrown out.

  10. I'm getting tired of these money making changes too.

I can't afford to keep up with all this new technology.

I finally was able to afford an HD-DVD player and now it's obsolete.....I guess my DVD burner in my computer is obsolete now too.

    OMG...............
