With all this talk of nuclear war does anyone doubt that?

You can have a small-exchange nuclear war.  You can't have a small biological war, the plague will spread worldwide.

whislt biological might be preferred by the recipients nuclear would likley be the first choice of the perpertrator  for efficiency - however being as nuclear destroys the valuable earth it annilates even for many centuries perhaps it is not ever going to be a choice for anyone wanting to take the space they are invading - biological warfare is devastating on the people but not so much the land so if it is the land that is desired then it would be the choice -- in saying this I would like to add I can't forsee either occurring, not ever.

I would go the opposite way and say biological have to be the last resort.  Nuclear weapons would be devastating but biological could exterminate human life.  Biological are not a pure thing and they can mutate and change making them immune to any treatment.

Biological weapons can kill off half the world.  How is that "preferred?"

the russians are using chemical weapons on english turf in a quiet inconspicuose way with polonium 210  recently in london and the umberella murders earlier in the 80's so it looks like thats the way the russians will go. nukes have more fallout and so tend to blow back in your face and polute the earth for ages bio weapons and chemicals tend to degrade faster and dont spread as easily back to where they where fired from the atom bomb is pretty much the most devastating then theres the nutron bomb which microwaves living things threw buildings without damaging the structures. then you still have more choises of helium hydrogen and uranium you can have a mixture of two and get berylium all very radioactive and very dirty horrible bombs
