With an ailing shoulder, Brett Favre's status in limbo yet again
As if their 3-6 record wasn’t devastating enough, the Minnesota Vikings got some more bad news on Monday 15 November.
According to ESPN NFL insider Ed Werder, the team’s embattled starting quarterback, Brett Favre, has confirmed that he has debilitating pain in his throwing (right) shoulder.

The play-caller has asserted that the pain could be linked to an off-season surgery that he underwent following the 2008 campaign to mend a partially torn biceps tendon. The QB believes that his current injury could be the same one that was plaguing him before,
or that his rotator cuff, which was diminished during the process of his previous surgery, is potentially damaged.

Favre has stated that he plans to contact the highly regarded Dr. James Andrews, who performed the quarterback’s 2008 biceps tendon procedure.
Although the seasoned 41-year-old has informed team doctors of his status, the report has confirmed that the Vikings’ medical officials have not been involved with the QB’s recovery from the 2008 surgery, and aren’t entirely familiar with the play-caller’s
treatment regarding said procedure.

At last Saturday’s practice, the 20-year veteran complained of a sharp pain in his throwing shoulder as he attempted to put on a t-shirt. And, although there was a conversation regarding the potential injection of pain-killing drugs to assist the QB in this
past Sunday’s game (a 27-13 loss courtesy of the Chicago Bears), both Favre and team doctors eventually deemed such a course of action unnecessary.

Over the course of his lengthy, Hall-of-Fame-worthy career, Favre has started 294 consecutive contests, an NFL record by nearly six seasons’ worth of games. Still, after deciding to come back for his 20th year, Favre has stated that he would sit out if his
injuries became detrimental to his team’s success.

"If I can play, but not be effective, then it’s not worth playing," Favre said last month, in reference to two fractures in his ankle that threatened the streak. "I hope I use good judgment, so we’ll see. I’m no spring chicken anymore. I don’t heal as quickly."

Time will once again tell if Favre takes the field come Sunday, as his Vikings look to make up ground in the NFC North when they host the Green Bay Packers.
