How about sending our used clothing and books and toys to these nations in need? Save a few of our GoodWill items and send them off to Africa and South America and the Phillipians and India and Cheznia.

  1. As the environment is a global issue, by helping to combat global warming, pollution, over-consumption you are helping all people of the earth, including and especially the poor overseas.

It is the poor who have the hardest time dealing with the impacts of global warming and an overpolluted world, because they don't have the funds to pay for the health implications of a poisoned environment, to move when they become refugees because of wars over the last remaining resources of oil or when their lands are flooded or in drought. Already there are 1000s of environmental refugees in low lying pacific regions and in Asia where water is becoming polluted or scarce.

The best thing you can do to help the world's poor AND the environment simultaneously, is to lower your consumption. Buy less, buy enviro friendly products, ride instead of drive, grow your own food, buy local. This lifestyle is a lot cheaper. The money you save you can donate to charities such as Oxfam that work to bring the resources poor communities need and set them up with projects that will help them to become self-sufficient, grow their own food etc.

So it is not either help the poor or help the environment, it is BOTH, they are so closely linked.

  2. i am more on your side with this, because there are problems that are a reality (like famine and pestilence), and there are debatable concerns (like global warming). lets work on the more pressing concerns before we waste the resources.

  3. The cost of the shipping is really high and I wouldnt think people in tropical countries would want all of our old clothes - especially coats and sweaters. You are far better off to recycle things locally and donate money so that the proper things can be bought in  foreign lands and distributed locally to the needy in that country.

  4. "They(environmentalists) have come to kill the African dream. And the African dream is to develope."  ~The Great Global Warming Swindle~

You get a 100 for 1 deal when you bring in industry. That is all you need. Everything else goes after that.

    Chechnia? Your kidding me...

They are an unstable state in Southern Russia. They were in civil war til Putin stamped them out.

  5. The problem is with the governments of these areas, not the lack of food and clothing.

I thank god I was lucky to be born in the USA
