With dazzling brilliance, Texas Rangers introduce Yu Darvish – MLB News
The Texas Rangers had one of their biggest moments on Friday, January 20, when they introduced Yu Darvish, the Japanese pitcher. The last time they had this illustrious and memorable moment was when they signed Alex Rodriguez, which was the largest contract in the history of baseball.
Much as things have changed since 2000, January 20th event saw more media attention than one might have seen in Rodrgiuez’s case. In Yu Darvish the Texas Rangers see the prospect of bigger glories to come.
He was given the Number 11 jersey to wear. This, it must be mentioned, is the same number he had worn in Japan. With the fans watching the event live on TV, the 6ft 5in player inspired amazing awe, something that will overwhelm the rival hitters once he is in the ballpark.
For Jon Daniels, the team general manager, this indeed was one of the biggest moments of the club.
"The Rangers have had a lot of big moments on the field the last couple of years, but there haven't been too many bigger off the field than what brings us here today," said general manager Jon Daniels, who also said hello to new Rangers fans in Japan, even speaking a phrase in Japanese.
Yu Darvish is an addition in the roster that will project the Texas Rangers as a seemingly unbeatable side. With Derek Holland and Alexi Ogando already in the pitching line-up, Darvish has the potential to wreck havoc on any offence in the League.
The team manager Ron Washington wants Yu Darvish to get adjusted to the new environment, as he has moved from comparatively calm Japan to relatively eventful American baseball world.
"We'll let him go through the process of getting ready, go through his routine and he'll get a feel for what we're looking for and we'll move forward from there," Washington said. "Baseball is universal."
With Yu Darvish introduced with his Number 11 jersey, it will be a few weeks before the baseball world sees the majestic pitcher on the mound in MLB to get on the rivals.
