  1. Sometimes, then I remember that a lot of the users on here are quite clearly naive and, I suspect, a lot younger that 13.

What annoys me more are those who blatantly just paste in an entire question that obviously is from homework or college work and expect it to be answered without even bothering to ask for help with the bit they find difficult.

  2. Not me.  If I don't like the question or if it is unintelligible I just skip over it.

There are quite a few people who genuinely want to know how to be a pilot and maybe it is their first time on Y! Answers and don't know how many times it's been asked before.

Also, people in this section come from all over the world and there are different standards for pilot training.  Even in the US or Canada there are several ways to become a Commercial Pilot and even more ways if you count military training.

  3. I was going to post a big "I AM" without reading any other posts.  THEN I realized that Calnickel makes a couple very valid points . . . . .

THEN I saw how obvious the "search for questions" bar is and went back to my original opinion . . .

I AM!  I'm also tired of "How much does a pilot earn?", "What is the BEST airplane ever?" and "Why did kamikaze pilots wear helmets?"

  4. Oh yes. I've seen a few of them lately.

  5. No, I am not sick of these questions at all. I would say that 90% or more of the questions, even within the aircraft section, are not interesting enough for me to even click on them, let alone answer them. I therefore simply skip over them and move on. Yes, they do appear frequently, but what harm do they do? There is still plenty of room for a variety of other questions and topics. There are also other online forums specifically for pilot discussions that might be of more interest to someone who is already a pilot.

As far as Answers pet peeves go, some of the answers are far more annoying than the questions. I think it was just yesterday that someone asked about the age to be a pilot. The first 6 or 7 answers came not from people who were just inaccurate or accidentally mistaken, but instead from people who clearly had no clue whatsoever about aviation. They probably thought they were helping, but by giving totally wrong answers they were perpetuating falsehoods and misconceptions. This is far more annoying to me.

Maybe we as members of this online community should send recommendations to Yahoo on how to improve it, like perhaps having a "become a pilot" section.

I do agree that the search feature is underused. I remember being able to easily find it and use it when I first joined. In fact, I spent a great deal of time just searching and reading questions on a variety of topics before I even registered to use the site. There is also of course the list of previous questions that automatically pops up when you try to ask something, so you can find if it has been previously answered.

On the other hand, however, I think it would be unfortunate if someone who asks a legitimate, albeit common, question receives less thorough or less precise answers because those of us who frequent this section get bored of seeing them. I also think it is difficult for someone to find the truly best answers to the question by combing through the thousands on becoming a pilot.

There are so many possible career paths in aviation, and each is quite challenging. I think we should do whatever we can to help those who want to pursue this career to understand the challenges and the many possibilities. And if we don't want to answer, we don't have to.

  6. I totally agree.  The problem is that the "Aircraft" sub-category is totally entrenched with 12, 13, 14 year kids whose sum knowledge of flying is from playing "Flight Simulator" on their computer, so they think they know all there is to know about airplanes, and what life is going to be like when they " grow up".

  7. They're tedious, but no more than many other questions on other subjects that are asked by people too lazy or thick to Google for themselves.

This includes things like "when's the last train to ...?" or "how much is the air fare between ...?"

Personally, I just ignore all questions where the Answers boil down to "look it up for yourself".

  8. I am. That what school careers advisors/job centre/pprune and the like are for.

Go find out yourself! You will never be determined enough to get yourself through the PPL, CPL, ATPL etc if you can't even be bothered to find out yourself how to do it!

  9. Me Me Me Me Me seriously though there are loads of sites these people could refer to instead of asking silly questions

    Pete

  10. I am!!!!

  11. I'm more sick of the people that can't spell!
