With early lead Mill Bling Bling experiences comfortable success in the Betfred Eclipse Finals at Nottingham
On 30th November, at Sunderland, Nottingham, the black dog, out of Bombastic Shiraz and Respect For Lee, born in October 2008, Mill Bling Bling won the £8,000 Eclipse Final, adding another accolade to his existing vast list of achievements.
Peter Ancell, the proud part-owner of the winner, Mill Bling Bling, was reported to have said:
“Tonight was a superb effort – he’s pinged the lids and done the job. The draw was very kind to us but at the end of the day I don’t think any dog would have lead him up whatever trap he was drawn”.
Other famous hounds that participated in the £8,000 Eclipse Final included, Tudor Prince, Ballymac William and Boher Paddy.
The field turned into a war zone as soon as the hounds broke away from their stalls to rush for the wire.
The Kelly Macary trained three-year-old Mill Bling Bling took advantage of the scenario when Ballymac William and Boher Paddy were busy running each other out and ultimately, Ballymac William was successful in racing ahead, blocking any chances of advancement for Boher Paddy.
During this melee, Mill Bling Bling grabbed the chance to rush six lengths clear, half-way through the track.
Even though Kelly Macary’s trainee was obscured by the late and sudden speed of Tudor Prince, the black dog out of Westmead Hawk and Old Fold, as he barged in the final bend, Mill Bling Bling’s speed could not be countered as he broke through the wire in 29.75 seconds.
His victory left the runner-up of the race, Tudor Prince, behind by 3 ½ lengths.
This victory was a hat trick for Mill Bling Bling, as he claimed his second Category One race of the season, winning the prior one at Nottingham as well. The runner-up of the first win was Mark My Words.
His record of twenty Grade OR (Open Races) races throughout the season has displayed nothing short of consistency, with ten victories out of those starts and just a few instances where he could not perform as per a champion’s benchmark.
His outstanding performances have entitled him to become a sparkling candidate for this year’s Greyhound of the Year. Whether Mill Bling Bling gets this prestigious award under his belt or not is yet to be seen, but this performance undoubtedly brings him a step closer.
