With everybody going Ga-Ga over Mark Martin driving the #5 next year, what does that say about Casey Mears?

I agree, They should have waited 'till the end of the season to boot Mears. HMS was uncouth to announce Mears' firing so soon.

  1. Mears has been there for 3 years.

This was the year for him to go or go home.

  2. I thought it was cool a few years ago when MM drove the #6 car sponsored by Viagra.

  3. I think it's a crappy way to do a growing driver, just like they did to Kyle Bush. If Mark (whom I adore) only wants a part-time ride, he should find an owner with a part-time car. I don't think Casey deserved to get the boot; he'd be a fine driver on any other team. I never did like Hendrick, and I don't like him any better now. I just hope he doesn't make the chase. Sorry for the negative attitude, but the truth hurts.

  4. you can't say casey mears was in bad equipment hendrick motorsport equioment is the best you can get he just wasn't getting it done and hendrick keeps his drivers on a short lease kyle busch finished fourth in points in the same equipment casey mears is using this year and not even in the top 12 in points with he is just an average driver and mark martin is a better driver sorry the truth hurts

  5. These owners and drivers both NEED to know what's going on next year as early as possible.  It starts a whole Nascar garage full of wheels in motion.  Particularly for marketing and merchandise...all that good stuff.  These guys know what kind of business they are in...they know the possibilities that come with not performing well.

You can't seriously tell me that what Hendrick did to Mears is worse than what Ganassi did to Franchitti?

Ohhh the HMS/Dale Jr hate!  You guys never cease to amaze me.

  6. i agree, mark is cool but that was tacky to do all this in the media middle season. Plus i liked mark casue he drove Ford but he ll drive anything i see now so he can retire chevy, but ford got him to where he is.

hope mears gets a good ride.

  7. It happens every year in Nascar and it is happening earlier every year.  It has nothing to do with Rick Hendrick, all the owners announce next years line up before the current season is over.  It is also beneficial to Casey.  All of the good rides would be taken if he didn't get his name out there soon enough.  If he waited till the Chase then Casey would have missed out and would have really been screwed.  If you think about it, he did Casey a favor by letting know the other owners who are looking know that Casey is available.

I didn't hear anybody complaining last year when Junior's deal was announced mid-season last year.

  8. goo-goo

  9. It was a c**p move on Hendrick's part, giving the boot midway through the season really could of happened near the beginning of the chase atleast, but the only benefit that Casey has gotten out of it is that he is actually showing what he has got in the past few races since it was announced that he was not returning.  But what can you also expect too when a racer has been passed around and can't just gel with a team.  I wouldn't be surprised if this continues and he gets another win before the end of the season.  I just hope that he goes to a good team next year, maybe driving the 4th RCR car would be good for him.

  10. i thought that everyone thought Mark was gonna retire.

  11. Hendrick turns on his drivers like a snake when they don't perform, "friends" or not. Mark's such a decent guy--don't know how he's going to work with a guy like Hendrick that would sell his own grandmother to make a buck and win world domination.

I feel sorry for Casey in how it was handled, but his driving skills really aren't up to the rest of the Hendrick drivers'.

*Rephrase: should have said Hendrick turns on his drivers when he doesn't need them anymore or something better comes along.

  12. It was announced last week that Mark was going to HMS...they just made it official. Mears never was any good IMO

  13. I guess you have to be old enough to understand that. Mark Martin has been racing for a while. He is a very consistent driver and a lot of people have respect for him. When next season is over you will know why. Watch where he is in the points standing. after running a full season.

Also I would like to add something else for people who aren't away of Mark's driving skills. For the people who know Mark, he is kind of like an underdog to win a cup championship. The reason why is  because he "would have already won" a championship if NASCAR had not fined him one year. Driving skill actually had him to win the championship but the points penalty  took the championship from him. http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/m...

That is how Mark is kind of like an underdog.
