With fading playoff hopes Dallas Cowboys host lowly Philadelphia Eagles – NFL Week 13 Preview
Although the Dallas Cowboys have very little or no playoff hopes, they have refused to give up. They have to win consistently if they want to secure a playoff berth and it all has to start on Sunday, December 02, as they host National Football Conference
(NFC) East opponents, Philadelphia Eagles, at Cowboys Stadium.
Cowboys have won five games this season and are tied with Washington Redskins at second spot in NFC East, which is led by defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants with seven wins and four defeats.
A win against the Eagles will help them strengthen their position in two ways; first it will better Cowboys’ overall record and second, it will help them gain advantage in the division.
Cowboys can still qualify for the postseason as NFC East leaders, but it will require a miraculous effort from them and sheer amount of good luck as other teams will need to lose their games consistently.
However, their vice president feels confident about reaching the postseason. He said earlier this week:
“We have just as good a chance as anyone else. We’re a game out of the Wild Card. Two games out of the division lead. We’re going to fight and play hard. We’ve played a lot of these good teams and we feel like on any given Sunday we can play with them.”
For Eagles, things are getting very dark. Their seven-game losing streak, fourth place in NFC East and their quarterback position dilemma have dented their prospects.
Rookie quarterback Nick Foles, who has replaced veteran Michael Vick on the starting line, has so far failed to secure a win for the team. However, the rookie has shown improvement as far as controlling the ball is concerned.
He is still struggling to get touchdowns, but has managed well to control his interceptions. Foles said about his performance and preparations against the Cowboys:
"I feel like we’ve run the offence well and we’ve just got to eliminate mistakes. The big thing was turnovers and I was just making proper decisions to read the coverage out right, getting us in the right plays if I have to.”
Eagles are not only dealing with injury problems at quarterback, their offence line is marred by injuries. They have injured players at quarterback, wide receiver and running back.
This is an opportunity in disguise for young players, who can perform well and earn confidence of the team management for long-term prospects. It is expected that the Eagles are going to some make some stern changes after this season so these players can
get in the limelight and secure their future by playing well.
As for Cowboys, if they fail to qualify for the postseason it will be yet another disappointing season for them with high hopes and no result.
