With garage band, how do i make my own software instrument?

i have some sounds that i want to add to a software instrument so that i can play them on the keyboard. i added the wav files to garageband but they show up as individual loops.

To make an new instrument you can click on any existing instrument and at the bottom right side of the screen click on the arrow that says details and alter its many settings, till you get the sound you want, then save it as a new instrument. Play around with the settings and different types of instruments, there are limitless possibilities.

You cannot import any wave files to garageband and get several tracks with the different audio forms that it is made up of, but if you can get a midi version of the song, you can import the midi to garageband and get all of its corresponding instruments in different tracks.

I would love to be able to make a xylophone setting on Garageband!  Xylophones sound neat in some songs.
