... What is everyone going to do?

I myself parked the 11 mpg Expedition in the driveway and purchased a car for my 100 mile a day commute. I also have to stay at work longer to get the most out of my trip.

When are people going to start to take action instead of just complaining ???

  1. YA know, I was just asking myself that same question today as I was cruising down the (right lane of)  the 22 FWY in Garden Grove Ca..

People were flying past me like I was sitting still. I was thinking that they were probably the same people whining about prices.

  2. From a personal standpoint, first of all, I parted with my 12 mpg classic Caddy a long, long time ago. Both my cars get better than 20 mpg hwy.

That said, my DH and I have rearranged our schedules so we can share rides 2 days per week. It's meant having to rely on another family member to pick up our kids, but it's also cut 200 travel miles/week off our commutes.

  3. I understand your point. Things might be even worse.

There are fears about oil prices spiking up to $145 a barrel by this summer.

If that is so, gas prices will respond......have you heard about $4.50/gallon gas?

Ways to stopping the scourge of spiking oil prices.....

    1. Get the troops out of Iraq, because mainly the war in Iraq is about oil.

    2. OPEC should release its barrels at the next meeting. To do so will lower the price-per-barrel by about 20 dollars or so....but the notice will not take place until 2 months.

  4. I can't speak for other people, but when gas prices went up, I parked my 13mpg car in the driveway, and bought a sport compact for $1500.  The car will pay for itself in 4 months with the gas savings.

I'm all about saving money on gas to allocate the funds towards home improvements and savings.

  5. www.cleanaircampaign.com or www.187ridefind.com are the web sites to find the car pool matches for free if you live in Atlanta,GA.

Also you can avail taxi in case you miss the car pool because of late working hourse or early move out..

  6. Actually theres some actions taken already rent-a-car companies develop Vanpool and shuttle services..

Just search the net for vanpool routes.

  7. Honestly, I don't see people changing their driving habits until gas prices are $10 per gallon or more and more people end up losing their homes etc., becuase they can't afford a mortgage payment and to still drive around all over the place on $10/gal gas.

I remember when gas prices first spiked from about $1.95 to over $3.00 in my area and while people complained like 5 year olds brats about it, no one really stopped driving or carpooled or condensed their normal 3 trips into 1 etc.,

On the other hand, the USA isn't Europe - it's far more spread out.  If I've got to get to work in the USA and I live 20 miles away, I've got to drive - I don't have the choice to take some form of public transit like someone in Europe might be able to do.  I also can't realistically ride a bike to work at any distance - not because I physically can't do it (I can) but because I'd likely be injured or killed by a car driver within a year or two of riding to work since bikes have nowhere to ride on most US roadways.

  8. get the dolts on both sides of the aisle to do something. Stop the war, drilling in alaska, rebuild the dollar, rein in the oiltygoons, research alternatives
