With gas prices at $4 a gallon and NOT going down, what's there to look forward defending America?

Unless people are able to get their hands on electric cars that aren't slow and stupid-looking but are cool like the Tesla Roadster and get back on their finacially by spending way less on energy then what they've spent on gas with this gas crisis, unless there's truly a plan for people to be able to save up like they used to when gas was only $1.75 a gallon, then I just don't see the point anymore because if people from Iraq don't kill us, the gas prices will.

So, that being said, when you come back home after feeling like c**p from your crappy military life, when you come home to $4.50 a gallon, what do have to look forward to, REALLY?

  1. I wish I could get fuel for $4.50 a gallon. It's the equivalent of around $6 a gallon in Australia at the moment, and it's more expensive still in europe

  2. 4.10 California

I'm not complaining love my life as a military brat :P

    Vandenberg AFB

  3. The quality of life is determined by gas prices?  Really?  Why don't you just drive less?  Or find a place closer to your job?

People really need to stop letting the media get them in such a big fuss over nothing.

  4. If we can harvest the power of Chuck Norris, we will be saved.

  5. You live in the Bay Area or LA County, right? So sorry. lol

  6. $3.29 here in NJ.

    Next stupid question.

  7. This is just a cynical view of the world.  And shows that you have no idea what it means to serve in the US Military.  I love my life in the military.  And I love the fact that I get to be with my Soldiers everyday.  That is what I have to look forward to each day.  I will have young, motivated Soldiers to work with, talk to, and yes, potentially go back to combat with.  They are what makes my day.  I chose to serve not because I thought I could keep gas prices down, but because I believe in this country and I believe in the Constitution that defines the principles it was founded on.

On your note of the price of gas.  Gas as compared to most other goods sold in the last 50 yrs, is now tracking the inflation per year.  Surprising, maybe.  But it doesn't mean that the US economy will go under because we have to pay more for a constantly used commodity.  It just means that each of us as individuals must set our financial priorities in the correct order.

  8. I just paid 3.55 in PA yesterday and its continuing to fall !

They tax the shite out of  us here in PA

  9. Who told all those people who drive leather-upholstered half-ton trucks that they had a divine right to gas prices that have been dropping when adjusted for inflation since 1960?

We've just been used to a situation that was too good to last - OPEC knows now that it can get high prices for its oil from China and India, who need all the oil they can get to expand their economies.  For once, this wasn't Bush's fault and it had nothing to do with Iraq.

We were driving smaller cars and actually being energy-efficient in the 1980s, then our country contracted a case of the stupids and started buying heavy trucks to drive from the burbs to work.  Did we really expect to waste oil like that and not pay the consequences?

The solution is energy independence.  Nuclear power and coal, and alternative fuels.   We're in a war - time to act as though we cared how it comes out.  Sacrifice, conservation, stuff like that.

This is a country of whiny babies.  I blame the educational system.

You want to try again? The prices have been dropping, and consistently... the economy is stabilizing, didn't have the 2 quarters of down turn as needed to declare a recession, food prices are dropping... man, between that, and the success in iraq, you libs must be chugging the koolaide to keep spewing that c**p. The fuel here is cheap, compared to europe, and other places... and when I returned, yes the gas was high, what did I think? Dang, what did the dems do now??

Ask pelosi and her minions how the leaving the building before a vote on drilling shows they support lower fuel costs... they don't, it cost them a talking point against Repubs, and looking at recent polls... well, pelosi is correct... they are yet again losing an election they had "in the bag"...  yep, must suck when people have to complain about gas, as the prices drop!!!

  11. Dude common,  Iraq is never going to be invading America. Where do get these ideas.

  12. I paid 3.39 a gallon in Delaware tonight... down a lot over the last few weeks.  Maybe re-think your question.

  13. Huh, gas down to $3.40 in my area of course if your in California where they pay more in taxes that would explain it.  Why exactly the 9 cents in profit drives libs nuts but the $1 a gallon on taxes doesn't is puzzling.

  14. in VA gas is $3.45 but don't complain in a lot of the european countries gas is about eight euro a liter so even with gas prices at $4 that is cheap the other reason gas is expensive is the election in case nobody remembers every eight years the economy goes crazy then balances out after a new president is elected so stop complaining everything will balance out

  15. Your life is horrible.  I would tell you what do with yourself, but I would just get reported.

Or you could quit whining and realize that you live in the freest most prosperous nation in the world and in history.  Stop being a baby and get your head out of your rear.

Better yet vote Republican so we don't go backwards to failed socialist policies.

  16. You think $4 a gallon is bad, how about $9.50? $8.62? $7.27? That is what is being paid in Europe and Asia.   Or how about your neighbors up in Canada who are paying about $5.00 a gallon and guess what it is Canadian gas.  If you live in Washington it is Canadian gas at about 7 out 10 stations.

The reason the price of gas went up is because oil prices went up.  Oil prices went up because the US economy went down.  Bankruptcy, foreclosures, layoffs, etc. all contribute to the economy it has been really bad recently so the US Dollar drops, then the prices of everything goes up.

But if you think paying $4.00 a gallon for gas what about milk?  You pay more for that in most locations?  Orange juice too.  Look at how much you spend on groceries and realize that it is worse for them than it is paying for gas.

Using public transit is good can help.  But unless there is a good public transit system up and running then it can't be used the way it should be.  So investments should be made into light rail, buses, rapid transit, etc...  Then instead of charging the same for each person charge for the mileage you go.  It is a system that has been used in places like Singapore for years and is a success.  You pay for how far you go which makes sense and is used a lot.
