  1. Objective Opinion: With it being August and them not being in the lead(3 back of TB) they are without a doubt in DANGER of not making the playoffs. Not that they won't, I think almost everyone is in DANGER of not making the playoffs, Cubs and Angels withstanding. But here's my take. Boston has a lot of depth in all areas of the game, except maybe late relief pitching. Everyone has an off stretch somewhere in their season/career and Beckett is no different. But if you asked me for one pitcher to win a game, Im taking Beckett. The kid is sick. Their bats are fine. Getting rid of Manny didn't help but Jason Bay is legit. If they dont reel of 4-5 losses in a row I think they WILL make the playoffs, be it winning the AL East or the wildcard. Yankees dont have the pitching and depth in their lineup to make a run I dont think. But I like Boston's staff better than anyone is baseball. If Wakefield comes back healthy they will be in. But with Lester, Beckett and Papelbon, they just need to get in and they are a hard matchup against anyone. They now have speed, power, and good average hitters in their line-up as long as Ellsbury can play decent for the next month or so. Losing Manny hurts in that untangible "clutch" factor, but Youk, Ortiz and even JD Drew as of lately can get a big hit in a big situation, especially at Fenway. Hope that helps.

  2. All strong teams are going to have a few off games here or there. If the Red Sox keep themselves no more than 3.5 games back, they should be fine.

They would have to sneak up on the Rays, though, not really to secure the division, but to run for the wild card. If the Twins and White Sox keep going neck and neck, it's going to really mess with my prediction that the WC will come from the AL East.

Of course, I certainly wouldn't mind a major meltdown in Boston...

  3. No... they will. They had awesome offense against the Rangers and Josh Beckett has his days.

  4. Yes, they are in danger. The wildcard will be either Yankees, Red or whitesox/twins. Basically everything is wide open because these teams have plenty of games vs each other. And this includes the Rays, and they can still mess it up like the 2007 Mets did.

  5. I personally think that the Red Sox are not in danger of  not making the playoffs. the sox are really talented and josh beckett is just having an off year. but dice-k is doing his job going 14-2(the walks need to go down though) one advantage that the sox have would be that they have 17 games at home in september(including the doubleheader vs. the blue jays) while the rays and yankees have only 10 at home during september. the sox are great at home and i think that they will be awesome in those 17 games. so i would think that the sox will go to the playoffs. and who knows? maybe they can win the division.

  6. nope i think that they will have one heck of a september!!!
