With lingering concussion symptoms, St. Louis's forward David Perron to miss season start –NHL Update
Even though young forward, David Perron, has showed remarkable recovery since his concussion which he sustained during a regular season matchup against San Jose in November, medical staff which was treating the left winger, barred him from attend the teams’
upcoming training camp, along with the start of the new season.
According to St. Louis Blues general manager, Doug Armstrong, the decision has been made after strong consideration viewing his health and advice from the teams’ medical personnel.
"David has shown improvement. But it's not to the point where he's ready to come in and work out and start training yet", Armstrong said. "The improvement took a big jump a few months ago, but it's been slow and steady now. We're going to continue down the
course we're at right now”.
David Perron, a 23-year-old forward from Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, faced an elbow to the head from San Jose Sharks' captain, Joe Thornton.
He remained in the game, but the symptoms came up slowly, which caused him to miss the remaining chunk of the season.
Drafted as the 26th overall during round-one of the 2007 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by St. Louis, Perron has remained part of the major league franchise ever since he played his first season back in 2007-2008.
Last season, since he managed to play only 10 matchups, Perron still scored seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) to end with a plus-minus rating of seven.
Overall, David Perron has played 235 NHL games and till now scored 131 points (53 goals, 78 assists).
Now having played a game or even trained for nearly a year, GM Armstrong is still confident that Perron will adjust quickly once he is back.
"Not only is he going to have to get his skating legs back, he's going to have to get his body back in NHL shape", Armstrong said. "With that is going to come his puck skills, his hands and timing. There's going to be a process that he's going to have to
go through”.
It is still unclear when David Perron will make his highly anticipated comeback, but by the looks of GM Armstrong’s confidence in the situation, it should not be surprising if it is much earlier than expected.
