With or without Prince Fielder, the Milwaukee Brewers vow to fight – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers are making careful calculations should Prince Fielder leave the team as he is currently a free-agent. Having a big vacuum to fill in the event of Fielder’s departure, the short-stop is an area that the Brewers are extensively working
on.
But the principal owner of the team Mark Attanasio stated on Wednesday, November 16 that the Brewers would compete even if they were not able to get Prince Fielder. Having become the title owner of National League Central, the Brewers want to continue their
impressive performance.
"We think we can compete even if we aren't able to get Prince back," principal owner Mark Attanasio said Wednesday at the Pfister Hotel. “We're looking, right now, at shortstop, first base and third base as positions we have to consider.”
The Brewers are currently not that worried as far as the pitching line-up is concerned. With some of the best starters available to the club, five of them under the Brewers’ control as they are not in free-agency, the team only has to fill the batting gap.
The fact that the team won 96 games this year, qualified for the National League Championship Series while eliminating competitive teams, Fielder had a big role to play in it.
"We're at a point where we won 96 games last year, and we're still going to have a good ballclub,’ manager Doug Melvin said. “We will put somebody there, and he's going to produce some offense, but it's going to be hard to replace [Fielder].”
Nonetheless, like Melvin stated, there is no replacement available for the likes of Prince Fielder. But, as is clearly seen, the Brewers are already looking for someone who can at least give his best in the short-stop position. James Rollins of the Philadelphia
Phillies is already in line.
With a .299 average in 162 games that he played in the 2011 season, Prince Fielder maintained a .566 SLG with 120 RBIs and 38 home-runs, having had 170 hits on 569 at-bats. He constantly contributed to the victories of the Milwaukee Brewers throughout the
year. With or without Fielder, it remains to be seen how the Brewers repeat the excellent performance they had this year.
