With our military being so advanced why do we need bases all over the world

Do we really need military bases in Japan or Italy or Germany or other counties that are our allies? Does it serve an actual purpose to have bases in those countries and others?

to checkmate all other nations and keep them under lockdown should  they ever try to get powerful.

look at it like this if we were to get attack and didn't have bases all over the place we would have all our eggs in one basket. It is for strategic reasons.

These countries we have interest in. Remember world war 2? We have trillions invested and will never completely abandom them. However they have REALLY scaled back since the end of the cold war. There are thousands of empty US facilities over in Germany.
